TIPS TO BECOME A CELEBRITY DJ
Here Are Some Advice For Upcoming DJs Who Want To Stay On Top Of Their Game;
1. Get Some Work Experience
Want to be a DJ? Then get out there!
Nobody has ever learnt anything while lazying around in their house.
If you are just starting your career as a DJ, beg people to perform at their event for free if possible.
Most of the successful DJs I know started humbly.
2. Get A Mentor
Whether it is DJ OPDot or DJ Neptune , just choose a role model and look up to them every day.
If given the opportunity, try to get closer to them and seek advice from them on a more personal level.
This will help you a great deal.
3. Ignore Your Age
Let me tell you a secret. You are never too young or too old to achieve whatever you want to achieve in life.
Never let anybody make you feel small. In this music industry, you are going to face a lot of bullying, but I urge you to keep pushing hard.
Be respectful, but never be intimidated.
4. Polish Your Music Taste
Good DJs are not born, they’re made.
Behind every great Nigerian DJ is a load of
Naira Marley’s jams, Adekunle Gold’s Afro-pop, mixed with Tiwa Savage’s country-style music.
A DJ is like a referee in a football match, you can’t be biased.
Don’t let your emotions stop you from giving the audience what they want.
5. Take Time To Relax
Take it easy. Stay hardworking, but take it one step at a time.
All work no play makes Jack a dull boy. So you should always remember to spend time with your guys and flex with your babes.
After all, they are your biggest hypemen and promoters.
All these points i mentioned are important but not complete. The following should also be observe.
1.Try as much as possible to always be on the faces of your fanbase by releasing mixtape regularly.
2.Look for a joint where you can perform on a regular bases e.g Bar,lounge, poolside,Radio or club where you can be easily be contacted for job and also gather a fanbase.
3.Don’t try to impress everybody.. Choose the kind of distinct pattern you want to be known for.I tried as much as possible to focus on wedding and mature parties bcux that pay higher than other events and also link you up to many people who can help your carrier, so I try all my possible best to know all the kind of music that work for that kind of events.
4.Brand yourself and choose a name that can be easily remember by your audience
5.Be friends to other colleagues in the entertainment industry such as event planner,MCs,hypemen, club owners, decorators etc. This people can Aldo recommend you for events.
6.Work on your temper bcux many audience can be so annoying that you have to be patients with them and approach them in way that will not cause problem and if that later happened let your employer be able to exonerate you from any blame
7.Try as much as possible to Also live some level of fake live like DJ OPDOT,Lawy,moremusic,4ckerty by projecting yourself to the public like a very big and expensive DJ by paying Makinde and other top bloggers to upload your mixtape on a regular bases if you want to be notice by big brands in Nigeria.
8.Time…No matter what happened always make sure you’re set for the events 1hr before the program. This is one of those things events planners to to see in a DJ bcux it make their work easy
9.Finally and many DJ’s take this for granted.Try as much as possible to have your own gears .No events planner will want to give you job if you don’t have control your equipment. Some programs come as a surprise that you didn’t have knowledge of and you were contacted and given shorter time to set up but since you’re not the owner of the equipment you may loose the job and that program may be your opportunity to shine. Again no top shot in the industry will be ready to share a program for you if he or she knows that you’ll disappoint in terms of equipment.
There are more I want to say but pls guys I want to sleep.
