For sometime now, the legal profession has been misnamed and misunderstood as being unattractive and unprofitable. However, such reasons are not far-fetched, due to the ignorance of the populace towards this noble profession. Even here on Nairaland, we see numerous threads criticising the study of law as a complete waste of time and resources. More so, some folks prefer medical courses to law, implying that law profession has become saturated, because there are more court cases than the lawyers.

Hence, this article is to reprove those that thinks the legal profession is all about court cases or litigations. The fact remains that law has revolved from its mundane state of litigation to a dynamic state of non-litigation. It is also worthy of note that, most lawyers are not "wigs and gowns" lawyers. Thus, for most lawyers, they only wore their wings and gowns on their call to bar ceremony, and some folks may not likely wear these attires throughout their lifetime.

In view of the fore-going, i will like to share the in-demand areas of the legal practice. These will motivate the younger folks and of course any one willing to study law to pursue his or her dreams. Aside from the mundane area of litigation which everyone is acquainted with, other specialties of the legal practice are as follows:

~Real Estate or Property Law
~Intellectual Property Law(Entertainment, Sport,
Copyright, Trademark, etc).
~Environmental Law
~Military or Martial Law
~Health Law
~Banking Law
~Business Law
~Family Law
~Insurance Law

And of course the list is endless. In fact, law is the most versatile discipline on the surface of the earth. A smart and skillful law graduate is expected to research on a suitable and convenient area of specialty and make a decent living out of it.

Furthermore, a law degree is a retirement plan for any wise individual as you will not go bankrupt while aging. Visit various law faculties in our Nigerian universities, you will see a significant number of older folks studying law. Even academic doctors and professors in their fifties and sixties apply to study law yearly, unlike medicine and surgery that has a benchmark for much younger folks, due to its dexterity.

Lastly, to whom it may concern, i want you to apply for that LL.B and you will never regret such decision.

Civil law has to do with the rights of the people. Civil law is very broad, so i can't type everything here. However, google is your best bet. While researching, also check for criminal law. This will help you distinguish both areas of law.

Also, note that civil and criminal laws are the mundane area of litigation. They are basically the "wig and gown" practice of law.
