Hungry Dogs Attack A Three Years Old Baby, As Pet Owner Blames Bad Economy. by EmoNewsAfrica: 12:01am On Jul 27, 2021
News making rounds has suggested that a three years old baby was attacked by some Hungry dogs , in the Kubwa axis of Abuja earlier today.
Our correspondent, who was on ground to investigate the events that lead to the attack on the child, said that the incident occurred when the poorly locked gate to the compound housing the dogs was flown open a strong wind, thereby giving the dogs the leverage to pounce on the baby who was playing outside in the opposite compound and was left by the care free mother who was also reportedly outside too but was washing clothes.

" I was outside watching clothes this morning and my three years old baby was sitting close to me playing with some toys. The compound opposite me has two fierce looking dogs but it is always locked to avoid the dogs coming out, hence I did not bother about the safety of my child or myself. After some time I noticed the weather changing accompanied by a strong wind , so I decided to hasten up with the washing before the rain starts falling . The next thing i heard was a loud scream from my baby and on turning back i saw the dogs already dragging my baby's right foot with there teeth . I immediately gave aloud shout and picked a big stick to attack the dogs hence they retreated but were still staring at us. I think my scream drew the attention of other neighbors who came and chased the dogs away, and drew the attention of the dog owner but i thank God my baby was not injured" Mother of the baby narrated.

When our correspondent asked the owner of the dogs for her negligence in properly closing the gates , she explained

" I put a lot of efforts in making sure the gate is always locked, but on this occasion I don't know how the wind was able to flung the gates open. My dogs are not this hostile to kids, I think the bad economy situation of the country which has made me unable to provide their usual meal , must have had negative impact in them, but all the same I am sorry this happened and grateful to God the baby is fine ".

Parents and ward should place eyes on their children all the time, to avert situations like this and owners of wild pets should also ensure that there pets are properly monitored.
