Tokyo Olympics: AFN Denies Contract With Puma by Ababbio: 5:13am On Aug 06, 2021
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), has said that it is not in possession of any contractual documents signed between it and German sportswear company, PUMA, Newspremises reports.

Recall that the kit manufacturers terminated the four-year sponsorship contract worth $1.67m with the federation on Wednesday.

PUMA cited the failure of Nigerian athletes’ to wear their brand at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.

Also, the technical director of the factional Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) board, Sunday Adeleye, on Thursday, said that PUMA will sue for breach of contract.

However, reacting to the development, AFN, in a statement signed by Prince Adeniyi Adisa Beyioku, its Secretary-General, said it could not be liable for what it knows nothing about.

The statement read,

”The attention of the AFN has been drawn to a media statement signed by Shehu Ibrahim Gusau confirming the termination of the agreement he and Mr Sunday Adeleye signed with sportswear and equipment company, PUMA purportedly on behalf of the AFN in July 2019.

”The AFN wishes to state unequivocally that it is not aware of any contract as there was no document in the Secretariat of the federation pertaining to any contractual agreement with PUMA.”

Nigeria's situation is what parents pray to never exprrience in their existence & journey through life over their offsprings... loving something/someone that refuses to do better, always brings shame & disgrace and they can't dissociate from.... You think it can't get lower, new depths being dug to find the lowest of the low...

God abeg oooo...

What is wrong with some Nigerians? So we've now moved from media trial to media denial. These square pegs in round holes should understand that if someone accuses you of breach of contract, you do not talk to the media; you talk to your lawyer instead. I really hope Puma drags their sorry ass to court. By the time the Puma legal team is done with them, they'll understand the difference between six and half a dozen.

So na who Puma sign with? Guess it's the unrecognized faction. How can AFN have factions as if it's a political party?

There are two factions in the AFN.

One faction signed the deal with Puma and the other faction is denying that there's any deal.

The reason that the athletes did not wear the Puma outfits is because the Sports Ministry accused the faction that signed the deal with Puma of corruption. They said that the money from Puma was paid into a private account.

However, the DSS and other security agencies investigated that faction and said that they did not find any evidence of corruption.
