Would You Stay With Arnold?

25 years of marriage, and 4 kids later, she finds out her husband Arnold cheated on her 14 years ago and secretly fathered a child (that just so happens to be the same age as her youngest son). The other woman is none only than their very own former housekeeper, who only left in january of this year after working on staff for the family for 20 years. This is a woman that she trusted, even allowing the child in question to play with her children over the years, not even knowing that her children were playing with their half-sibling.

If you were Maria would you stay in the marriage?

"For better or for worse" eh? Well if they can 'weather the storm' and stay together through thick and thin, kudos!
If not then it's an unfortunate way to end such a long marriage but it wouldn't do them any good to force the issue. I just feel sorry for the children.  undecided

I am not sure how I would react though. Seeing that child and the other woman and being oblivious to the facts for years would probably be like a forum of mockery and the ultimate type of betrayal to me granted I am sure the wife and the mistress have had talks like "girls" and the mistress knew of their problems. Then only for the wife to be the last one to realize the woman she confided or put trust in, is the other woman. It's really messed up.

should she proceed with the divorce i hope she sues for alimony and emotional distress grin grin.

No honey, she wouldn't. She is a Kennedy; ergo, she is rich! She already moved out of the house; now that's class. Some other broke woman would have thrown the guy out.

Uh oh, you said the magic words that may cause some men on here to come to his defense, and start calling us women heartless gold-diggers.  grin

I'm with you though. To top it off he boldly decided to run for governor knowing that he has this huge secret. It seems he used his wife by keeping the secret from her until he left office. I wouldn't even look back.

Cool. i just hope you noticed the 'cheesy' smilies which, if i post them, are a sign of humor or sarcasm.  smiley

@Nekai ABSOLUTELY!  grin grin [ref. to what you bolded and commented on]

and I agree it seems he used her family name although I won't say there wasn't any attraction or perhaps love, but
being married in the Kennedy family is def. a complimentary for someone with the political ambitions this former 'Terminator' have/had, sadly it looks like SHE WON'T "be back!"  grin.

I would still sue. She had to leave her career as an award winning journalist because he decided to run for governor. The network said that it would be a conflict of interest. She said in an interview that she wanted to make a name for herself and not depend on her family, so it was important for her to work hard. When several women came forward accusing him of being sexually innapropriate with them she stood by his side and publicly defended him instead of walking away. Little did she know that at that time the housekeeper's young child was really for her husband. I'm sure this played a part in getting elected. Also, why throw him out? Her husband and the housekeeper have been carousing in that house for 2 decades right under her nose, I'm sure she wants a fresh start.

"I wouldn't be standing here if this man weren't an A-plus human being. I wouldn't be taking my time, I wouldn't have left my job that I love, I wouldn't be doing any of this if I didn't believe in this man." And her praises of him continues on.

This is what she said about him when the allegations came out in 2003, not knowing that he was hiding this huge secret from her.

I understand. I'd also like to say, and I hate to take away from this story but take Rita and Bob Marley for example.
When they split up she had three children for him and one that was hers whom he adopted which made four. Even then he moved on
to a white woman named Cindy Breakspeare who was "Miss Jamaica" at that time and went on the tv and DENIED ever being married to Rita.
He paraded around with his oyinbo and impregnated her resulting in Damien Marley. When Bob was on his death bed, that is when he called to Rita,
made things right and apologized to her. Even with that humiliation Rita still took in ALL of Bob's 'out side of marriage' children and even embraced Damian who she sees as her 'son' as well.

I know it can happen this thing we call acceptance. I am just hoping that Arnold's wife won't take her anger out on the child! Frigg his/her mother!  angry but she shouldn't be mad at the child and pull her children from them.

Exactly.  Angry or upset people do not realize what they are doing until it is too late.  She is upset right now and I can understand what she is going through.  She may have not expected something like that to happen but that why we shouldn't put anything pass ANYONE.   lipsrsealed

@ MzDarkSkin

I honestly did not know that those white-teethed smileys are an indication of sarcasm. In America, women don't joke with suing. Even if they don't need the money, some would still want to put the man through some form of emotional stress.  grin (That wasn't sarcasm)

Hmmm. so let me get this straight, I am Jamaican (half) and because of that I would sue for alimony?
Is this part of my genetic make up and I am unaware? cause I could have sworn that requesting alimony is an act
or a settlement following a divorce and not a cultural custom. Didn't know Jamaica or fear of Jamaicans
pertained to this issue. Interesting.  cheesy funny I never bring up stereotypes on this forum, somehow I get them.

And btw you don't have to believe me that is the least of my worries.
