Is it a part of their official or ceremonial uniform? Why would our military top shots be acting like they all developed serious arthritis at the peak of their careers?

This trend is somehow, Nigeria is the only country I know that allows this. It looks wrong to me because it portrays our military top shots as being incapacitated or weak.

Abi is it ‘denge-pose’? Bugga? undecided I don’t know if I’m the only one who finds it distasteful.

It just symbolizes military pride and the swagger stick can only be use by officer's of the rank of brigadier general and above... sometimes it makes them look smart.

The one they carry is a Staff.

Can be used in the jungle as a seat. (The head opens up to form one)

Since Generals are not expected to squat while issuing commands.

Pretty much every Senior Officer (Maj. And above) can have a swagger stick. In some Army it is issued officially.

RSMs are NCOs that use a stick. But not the swagger type.

It is good that you seeked for knowledge by asking. It is bad that you assumed that it's only in Nigeria without knowledge.

Trashy behavior they picked from the colonial era and refused to let go uptill today. I can see some inebriated souls already defending that nonsense by calling it "swagger sticks to give command in the bush" bla bla bla. The truth is that it's just another added instrument in the lists of endless protocols and paraphernalia of offices that surround every serious position in the country.

How about "The Kotimas"? Well dressed Army Officers following the president around as his ADC. His wife has a female police officer and all the Governors have Police Officers standing at their backs wherever they go. Do you know that this practice was started by the white colonialists who were afraid that angry villagers might emerge from the bush and finish them during the colonial era??

Our confused leaders picked up from there and never stopped....

The stick serve as a symbol of authority as far back as the 17th century and it's not only the N/A that use the swagger stick.
