Outgoing members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have been given a total sum of N52million as severance package each, P.M.NEWS has learnt.

The amount includes a furniture allowance of N7 million while the remaining N45million covers gratuity and other welfare issues. P.M.NEWS also learnt that returning lawmakers got N40 million each as severance package.

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Adeyemi Ikuforiji

The amount the lawmakers got is a big difference from the severance package that was approved for the state lawmakers in 2007 which was put at N5 million. A source within the Assembly who confirmed this to P.M.NEWS, also added that each of the lawmaker’s personal assistants got N750,000 and that weeks before now, they had been given money as dressing allowance.

According to the source, the various amounts were approved by the state government following discussions between the executive arm and the lawmakers led by its Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji. The source who pleaded anonymity said the leadership of the House decided to convince the executive arm that the severance package needed to be made worthwhile to prevent the Lawmakers from later becoming “beggars” like their predecessors. He said: “If you go round, you would realise that most of those who served this State in the House of Assembly before now are now living like paupers and it does not tell well of the state.

A total annihilation of the current ruling class would really go a along way to bring back sanity to the dumpster of nation called Nigeria  cry

All these monies being wasted on these individuals is nothing less than treason which is punishable by death.

Lagos is matching the Feds pounds for pounds, dollars to dollars and Naira for Naira.

The Fed Senators would probably get 40 Million and Reps guys get 35 million Lagos thumps them yet again with 52 million kudos to Lagos, "eko for show

im really confused with this issue, i pray its not true. how can lagos progress if we are spending this kind of money on severance, what have they really achieved in 4 yrs that they deserve to empty our purse. some civil servant who have contributed much more than these lawbreakers cant even afford the very basic of life needs. Fashola is condoning too much corruption

I think they are beginning to get a God-Complex in Lagos State.

Lagos is moving into a territory where systematic discussion, close evaluation and implementation of policies would be crucial to sustaining its accelerating progress. The people needs to find a way to keep the government on the straight and narrow part. The solution of course is not to pull the government down, since that will only benefit even more corrupt politicians. What is needed is constant monitoring and complaints, including protests if necessary. The people of the state must realize the most trustworthy politician deserves only 49% of our trust.

What kind of severance allowance is this? The state is owing N124 billion, but it is doubtful they have a payback plan. It doesn't take a soothsayer to know that it will all come crashing down if this continues unabated.

One party states. . . not a good idea.

This is too much.

It might do Lagos some good to get an equally competent person from another party as governor in 2015 (but God not from PDP, may be Labor party or some other progressive group) with most, but not all of the HA still from ACN.

While a state and/or nation could go almost one-party from time to time, it must not last too long. That is the problem we have with PDP dominating everything at the center, and ACN will have in Lagos if it doesn't take some kind of timeout in ruling Lagos State.
