Akinyemi who has embarked on extensive research noted that the red and green imported apples from the United States of America (USA), Asia, South Africa and Europe are common in Nigeria. They are actually known as temperate apples.

“There is a unique and an amazing tropical variety of apple now grown, eaten and sold in Nigeria although still relatively new.

This tropical apple is from Malaysia, a country in the south east of Asia with a tropical climate like Nigeria, which is the main reason why it grows well in Nigeria.

It is highly nutritious and medicinal in nature. Today this apple fruit is produced almost in all countries in the humid tropics.

This amazing tropical apple comes in three (3) unique shapes – Obovoid, Oblong and Bell. It also comes in three (3) distinct colours – Red, Green and white”.

He stressed that the tree is presently grown in homes, gardens and parks, and farms in Nigeria. It is prolific producing about two thousand (2,000) apples per tree per annum when fully established. It produces apple two or three times (2or 3x) per tree per annum.

“The vitamin A in this apple is for a clearer and sharper vision. Vitamin C and other minerals prevents skin cancer. It also has the capacity to regulates blood pressure and blood sugar. It eases defecation.


It is good for body hydration. It contains high amount of water. By hydrating the body, it keeps the body temperature normal, flushes waste products from the body because of good urine production and keeps the body always lubricated.

This tropical apple helps keep pregnant women hydrated. There are inevitable health conditions such as nausea and vomiting which can cause dehydration.”

Gbenga further disclosed that the food uses of this amazing tropical apple includes, making it into smoothie, sauce, preserves, fruit salad with other fruits, stewing into chutney.

“It is also processed into valuable products such as juice, table wine, vinegar, Jam, Jelly, marmalade, for local consumption and export.

This is a clarion call to individuals, corporate firms and the three (3) tiers of government to seize this opportunity to diversify the economy with the mass production of this apple for health promotion, wealth creation and Job opportunities for the teeming unemployed Nigerians and the world at large. We must recognize the fact that Nigeria has a great future”

go to YouTube and watch his videos. Thank God I got his contact here, I have been looking for ways to connect with him since I watched him on YouTube. Government should support this guy. Wabumga apple is making waves in Kenya because of government support.
