The new month reigned in with grim news that 73 school students had been abducted on Wednesday. The abductees were students of Government Day Secondary school, Kaya in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

A combined effort of security agencies and the Zamfara State Government has yielded the rescue of 5 female students out of the abducted 73.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Zamfara Police Command, SP Muhammed Shehu confirmed that the 5 were in good condition and "...were medically checked at the hospital, debriefed by the police and reunited with their families”.

Efforts are currently ongoing towards securing the rest of the abductees.
