Job Title: Grocery Retail store manager

Locations: Lekki phase 1, Lagos

Responsibilities are divided into 3 sub categories: Compliance, Internal Control and Quality Assurance

Compliance and Internal Control responsibilities
Manage Food Safety and ensure that the Food Safety Policy is adhered to in all stores.

Manage fire safety, pest control, maintenance, cleaning, security, and maximize the efficiency of internal resources.

Carry out monthly Health and Safety and Food Safety audits to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented for each site, and provide a detailed action plan to manage any non-compliance with the urgency required.

Carry out Health & Safety and Food Safety Risk Assessments and consider how risks can be reduced; develop internal policy and keep documents up to date and retained according to legislation.

Lead in-house training with employees on Health and Safety risks and Food Safety; liaise with Human Resources to keep training materials and key officers up-to-date.

Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation.

Meet with local, state and federal inspectors and officials and follow up on any issues raised.

Record incidents and accidents and ensure procedures are followed.

Manage specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, asbestos, hazardous substances, safeguarding machinery, food safety, and vehicles.

Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain policies of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and Food Safety and any developments that will affect store operations. Update and maintain policies.

Ensure stores have all the relevant licenses in place and keep updated. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

Responsible for Health & Safety issues and ensure a safe working and compliant environment for both staff and customers.


Quality Assurance responsibilities
Main Function is to ensure Fresh produce an all other food products are being operated under an in house food safety management system and that this system is being operated effectively and efficiently whilst also meeting regulatory compliance

Work with Pricing, Research and Development department on the introduction of new products and raw produce as part of the company's New Item Development process

Manage supply chain controls through supplier approval and supplier monitoring programs

Develop all food safety policies and risk based prevention plans and specific procedures for all produce and food products.

Approve all new product specifications and review existing specifications on a predetermined frequency

Provide leadership and oversight for the Quality Assurance team members who ensure programs are working, procedures are followed, monitor product quality and enforce Food Safety Practices

Lead the addressing of all regulatory official requests including leading plant inspections

Identify non-conforming products and lead decision making process for disposition of those products based on the risk to food safety and quality.

Oversee shelf life studies on all food products on qualifying runs as well as existing products for continuing improvement purposes.

Perform routine internal audits and inspections, and coordinate with Operations Leadership to enact appropriate corrective actions.

Oversee raw ingredient/raw produce inspection program.

Create product specifications including ingredient statement and nutrition facts for new and reformulated products

Develop and implement training criteria and materials for team members for food safety and quality assurance

Key Requirements

Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role.

Must be H&S trained. Food Safety Level 3.

Experience of operating within a commercial food environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, communicate clearly with the store managers, senior managers, and all staff.

Able to write and analyze legislation and respond accordingly.

Intermediate Excel skills and basic Word skills.

Strong communication and negotiation skills to liaise with contractors.

Capability to work unsupervised and take responsibility.

Able to remain calm under pressure.

Detailed and flexible in both written skills and time management.

Good organizational skills.


Requirements
