What hope for Nigeria when thieves like Bankole , instead of being locked up , are rewarded with more opportunities to loot our Nation further? Is this how "fresh air" operates?

NEW CABINET: Jonathan snubs PDP’s lists

Ministerial slot for Bankole

Meantime, the outgoing Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, has been pencilled for a ministerial slot. Informed Presidency sources said Bankole may become the new minister of state Foreign Affairs to pair up with Odein Ajumogobia, who is also expected to retain his seat as Foreign Affairs minister.

Presidency sources have, however, expressed worries about Bankole’s fate. Though President Jonathan wants him to become a minister and has reserved a slot for him, recent events in the House of Representatives make the speaker’s fate hang in the balance.

Bankole, who was voted into office on the platform of the PDP lost his re-election bid in last month’s general elections. The ministerial slot may be some kind of compensation for him. But getting security clearance may become a hurdle for the outgoing speaker. A source said, yesterday: “Yes, Bankole is on the ministerial list, but he has not gone for security clearance yet.”

Duplicate role. When other sensible countries with larger economies are reducing spending and consolidating offices, Nigeria is busy expanding. Who is advicing Goddy?

Thanks my brother. I will read it and respond.

As per the topic of the thread , assuming Bankole and other recycled crooks become Ministers, all I can say is "we told you so" . I remember that many of us , including yourself, stated tirelessly that GEJ is "more of the same" . We argued that the most ruinous hands in Nigeria are not behind GEJ for nothing. Jonathan , of all the Presidential candidates, is the least likely to deliver the type of bold, dont-care-whose-ox-is-gored, rigorous and sincere reforms that will set Nigeria on the path of rapid development .

Already we are seeing hints of the deciet and lack of political will many of us accused GEJ of repeatedly . We are told he has directed the NNPC to ensure Refineries are working optimally within 2 years. Moribund NNPC? Madness IMO . This is GEJ simply pandering to his "owners of Nigeria" friends who want an inefficient status quo to remain in place !!! Whatever happened to what is very obviously needed? I.e the transparent concessioning of the refinery into competent Private hands that will always be pro-performance because of the incentive of profit?

As for the power sector , I can only advice Nigerians not to dream of selling their generator. I raised the alarm about how odd it was , a few months back, that the FEC were approving a raft of Power contract when all spendings on the sector had previously been halted till a holistic privatisation plan was in place !!!! That , to me , was clue to how the "privatisation" talk is really deception and insincerity.

We are quickly receiving signals that we may be in for another 4 years of profligacy, inefficiency, sheer indolence and callous corruption. Already Mr. President , knowing how fundamental the issue of recurrent versus capital spending is, has stated that a leaner Government not possible for now when he did not have the sincerity to make the same argument before the election !!!!

My brother, Nigerians have chosen "fresh air" for the next 4 years. Lets hope many won't choke on "fresh air" .

My brother , this is not how we should be looking at issues as stakeholders , i.e Nigerians, who want a nation that works. What should really concern us is how a man who should be heading for jail may actually gain another influential office to use in assuaging his hideous kleptomaniac urges !!!!!

Wait until some scumbags started defending the president with views like;

"You know, erhm he is not the one  insisting on giving Bank-OLE".

"yar adua did thesame thing and nobody complain"

"OBJ should be blame"

"Jonathan is a nice man, but people around him are bad"

"He has not even been sworn in, you are complainig"

"Just that he is of lesser evil"

"His name is still helping him"

"vanguard is not a credible source"

"That man get luck o" , to know that Nigerians deserve the type of leaders they are having.

Bankole is not meant to accept it, clearly it is a demotion, from number 4th person in the nation to been the "errand boy of a full minister" I suppose by being the juniour minister he can still be draw "Ministerial estaco" to travel abroad and  give his beautiful girl-friend "Gbemi" some treats that is better than been un-employed. No woman likes an un-employed man even if you have all the money in the world.

You will be surprised at how shameless our politicians are . Many of them can no longer even see beyond political office as a way of earning a living!!!! Ribadu , courtesy of technocratic skills and intrinsic uprightness, has headed to Afghanistan to earn a living as a UN employee. Meanwhile every worthless PDP administrator thrown out of office ,for not being good enough, are busy shamelessly lobbying Jonathan for one position or the other . Abeg don't bestow pride on Bankole he does not have . Someone stealing 'yafun-yafun' like Bankole will have no qualms being GEJ tea boy if that still gives him access to easy "free" money and keep him "untouchable".

The sad and scary thing is seeing FO around GEJ all the time, i am not aware of any president in the modern world that allows himself to be photgraphed without any caution with a top businessman in the country. We know western presidents cut deals with CEOs and other guys but to be seen in public everyday with a priovate citizen that has substantial interest is just calling the bluff of Nigerians.

We are being told we are stupid and we cannot do anything about it. FO has interest in diesel hence electricity will never significantly improve in the next 4 years. FO imports diesel hence the refineries will not still function after 4 years except he buys the refineries himself.

I grieve for Nigeria.

We are also being told 5 billion naira is budgeted for a mere inaugration party at a time where a country like spain cut 10% of govt ministers pay, 5% of public servants pay and other costs. Our president is using 20 million pounds to party , i wonder how much he has stolen if he can use that amount to party.

Indeed. Even if it is my my own opinion, I am of the view that Otedola has gotten what he wanted with how GEJ has "ordered" the NNPC to ensure refineries work optimally within 2 years ( shocked shocked shocked) when even a 2 year old child knows that is the direct opposite of what needs to be done for our refineries to work for the benefit of Nigeria and Nigerians. Why , for god sake, does GEJ want to pander to corruption and the ineffective old ways if not that he is committed to his "enemy of progress" friends more than he is committed to doing what is right for Nigeria? What would make a President do something that defies logic and adds to the problem at hand ? We can only conclude , as some of us argued , that GEJ is compromised by all the AGIP (any government in power) enemies of progress (like Otedola) who ensure that they always get their way to the detriment of Nigeria's development.
Re: Bankole For Ministerial Appointment ! by Lagosboy: 3:44pm On May 23, 2011
If my memory is correct OBJ spent billions on the 4 refineries under the then TAM scheme (Turn around maintenance) of all the refineries. Guys like Sir Emeka Offor made a killing in terms of money as nothing tangible was done to the refineries.

GEJ ordering NNPC means GEJ voting money again for the refineries to work which means some guys will "jeun soke and jeun si apo" again. Same old story same old song again.

That is the complete truth right there. None of those who work at the centre such as the president of Nigeria, Senate President, Speaker of the house, ministers, etc has added value to Nigeria through his/her position. Regardless of the office, the only constants are corruption, greed, fraud, nepotism, incompetence. Without the capacity or ability to add value, a looter will accept any position that permits him/her to enrich himself/herself and go about the country like a BIG MAN.
