Well said. Op follow this advice and in addition, please buy a 2 cell radiator & remove the thermostat if it is still present. It will make the cooling system better. Since I bought this, get fans working at ignition start and change the water pump, I have add a good experience. I have a good mechanic I can recommend for you to fix your car
ignorance at its peak. Let's see how long this "good" experience lasts. Finally, you go change that engine. You have thoroughly abused that car.

Sorry about that bro,I had a similar experience with my Lexus SUV,it overheats once the ac is on and I stay in traffic for over 30mins.

I had to go to ladipo,my mechanic recommended I change the follow come single cell radiator to double cell radiator then they ensured the fans are very active.

Since then no issues,so try and check if the radiator is single cell or double cell, try changing it alongside the water pump and radiator fan.

Lastly keep an eye on your temp gauge so you can observe any increase

Why do we do all these?

Are you saying the engineer that made the car, isn't knowledgeable enough to know that a single cell radiator would work with it?

Changing radiators to a double cell is an absolute farce. Find the reason your car is overheating and you can fix from there.

Had an over heating issues some 2 years back and all they were saying was change the radiator to double cell or connect the fan directly to the battery. I told them Bull Shit. If a single cell worked before on it, why isn't that single cell carrying the car anymore and why would you want to overwork your fan by having it on 247 why do you have a relay system then?

Thankfully i keep notes of repair works. Apparently the over heating started some days after i changed the front engine seat and they needed to pull out the radiator then to fix the replacement.

Checked Honda's manual to see procedures to carry out after a radiator removal and it was recommended that you needed to fill up the radiator drive for 30 to 100 miles , drain and refill the radiator. If you don't do this there are likely air pockets that have built up in the radiator when it was removed so fluid wasn't flowing through it and this would cause overheating.

Implemented this drain and refill in the car, and not had a single over heating issue in 2 years.

When you have issues. Follow the manufacturers manual and not all these trial and error mechanics around.

I have already know it's a bad practice and even install the thermostat in my engine. The fuel consumption has reduced, also the ignition but the temperature gauge is at the middle unlike before that was low. We learn everyday

of cos, but does the environment not contributes to the temperature of the engine? Does thermostat get stuck? If it can take 10 mins for a Gasket to get burnt when a car is in full power, do we always glance at our temp guages every 2 minutes? In my original post I talked about the fan starting upon turning the ignition nothing about the thermostat. *Although if you ask me I would advise you remove it) more peace of mind.
Many engines have their fan belt driven. So those designs of engines are nonsense?
Listen, it might not be the ideal thing to do but it's a very good idea, especially in Nigeria where overheating can make bandits kidnap someone

Please stop talking about things like an uneducated person.

A thermostat reads the temperature of the Engine bay and determines if it should increase the RPM of the engine to quikly heat the engine to optimal level during cold starts. Also reads the temperature of the engine when warm and helps maintain optimal engine temperature. Most max engine levels are 195°C.. once the system detects temperature above such levels it kicks in and tries to cool down the engine

Not to have a thermostat is like a blind man who also has no sense of touch or feel. Your car can't ascertain when the engine is warm or cold and just works continuously. This is highly inefficient and can lead to engine wear and tear.

A working thermostat isn't the cause of your engine overheating.

That mark close to the middle is your engine’s operating temperature.

To experiment now that you have the system back to factory mode. Start your car in the morning, you’ll notice your idle RPM goes high to quickly heat up the engine and comes down once the temperature is at that mark.

Now if you had allowed the car stay that way without thermostat and continuous fan blowing it will never reach that temperature and your car idle RPM stays high since the car will never get to that temperature. This is what causes high fuel consumption and low engine performance cos the oil doesn’t heat up for proper lubrications since it stays thick this in turn affects the life span of your engine..

Thanks alot. I noticed the factors mentioned with engine ignition/rpm reduced because the temperature is now operates at 80 degree Celsius and my exhaust pipe now looks fired unlike before that is a little black. When I told my current mechanic that my car doesn't have thermostat, he shouted and told me it's a bad practice and who ever advised me earlier is a terrible person.

However, he went ahead to scan my vehicle and noticed my 02 censors needs replacement and the catalyst in the exhaust is bad and may block the exhaust as time goes on. He advised me to get a factory based catalyst but when they priced it at ladipo, my head spin. A whopping amount of 150k. I don tire for car maintenance.

glad you did this. That smidsle position is the normal position. Well done.

I wouldnt have bothered to read all your jargon cos you started by insulting yourself.
So a thermostat valve reads the temperature of an engine and sends instruction to increase rpm? That same Google that is advising you, go and read it very well and correct your self. Mr educated. Thermostat valve reads temperature and send electric signals to the brainbox to increase the Engine rpm? Really? All I can say is that you can get ideas from Google but you can't get knowledge.

Oga I'm not reading. You go and read about thermostat valve. Know the difference between thermostat valve and temperature sensor.

Did I talk about temperature sensor or valve? my basis of what I’m asking you to read is that claiming the Nigeria ambient temperature is what makes engine over heat is false and you are misinforming people. My two cars don’t overheat and I drive them in Nigeria and Lagos traffic in particular one for 5 years and the other for almost 3 years and the thermostat is intact. Do I need to add that I’m an aggressive driver that’s how we lovers of BMW roll.

I was replying someone else and you mentioned that particular reply
Then you should know the origin of an argument before you comment on peoples replies

I dont think you should bother yourself with this person that knows so much. Its a waste of time, resources and energy. Been reading his comments and my, my, ignorance is truly bliss.

What is disturbing is that he’s confidently misinforming people, would have let it pass except his suggestions have detrimental effects on the car engine and performance which is costlier than sorting the overheating issue.

It’s a situation of being penny wise and pounds foolish.

I can feel your frustration, i actually thought that gradually this mindset of thermostats, connecting fans directly and double or single cell radiators were a thing of the past. This thread opened my eyes to the fact that these Kazeems are still very much around. Shame.

So here;

Yes
No
Double cell ? No. Single cell for now.
Please id respond to further messages. Thank you.

Then get can remove thermostat n place on direct fan, change radiator to double cell and make sure radiator cap is firm. New double cell is 30k, so new cap def

Good evening everyone.
Please I bought my car about a month now. (Toks)
As I was bringing it in, I didn’t know the car was overheating and it burnt my gasket. I fixed it in agony.
Now just today, after parking it for 9 days I called the mechanic who told me I had to change the 4 coils, plugs and do a fresh servicing. I did all this and even bought two new gallons of coolant. Dear people, do you know that after an hour of all this, I tried to test drive , just along the way I noticed the car was over heating then I Tried to look for a little safe place And park. I opened my engine bay and noticed that gasket is burnt again! All my money down the drain! The stress, the agony, the everything. I’m so so sad! Trying really to be strong. Please people, what can I do? Now the car won’t start and I had to pay a towing van to tow it. Sorry about my grammar. My heart is just too heavy. Thanks. Any opinion is welcome.
If you can't afford it twice u can't afford it..
