You said the naira has more purchasing power than the dollar? Na night school you attend?

grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Quita system education is bad!

You know nothing about purchasing power

Purchasing power is calculated by the amount of goods your currency can buy in your local market.

What can 2000 naira buy in your local market here in Nigeria

Compare with what 4 dollars ( 2000 naira) can buy in the local America market

That is how purchasing power is determined.

2000 naira can buy more goods in nigeria than 4 dollars in America.

Oga, 500k is for MDs and GMs. How many people even get above 100k, not to talk of 500k? You want to use the earnings of the top 1% as your basis for debate of cost of good and services? Seriously?

Really so 500k is for only MD and Gm, really ?
The world have left you Behind.

So how much do you think Nigerians on upwork make monthly?

The cost of data in Malawi is $27 In Nigeria it is $1.31...for the same one gig

Then the minimum wage in both countries is the same.

In Chad it is $23...where their minimum wage is N47000 Or 116 dollars.

The cost of 1 g data in the Central African republic can chop one quarter of your income.....here in Nigeria it is much less.

I think the problem is, anyone who points out the fact that data is cheap in Nigeria is perceived as arguing for higher prices. That's not true.

Anyway, the argument we should really be having is the modalities they use in setting the price for data. That's what we should be asking.

Modified

OP is being clever by half. He compared Nigeria to the US...meanwhile, there are many African countries that charge higher for data than even the USA....and OP did not put them on his list because he knows it would defeat his argument..especially as minimum wage in many African countries is about the same as, or less than Nigeria..

Modified

If you are hurt by my argument, don't be. I am not arguing for higher prices. So calm down. If we want lower prices, we need to have more GSM companies come in to invest.
I don't know much about those countries but I believe there data will always last long not like Nigeria wen 1gb last for just a day I had to download data monitor a open of Instagram app 15mb don go without even scroll it ,a video will cost close to 50mb on Instagram I swear they are robbing us making it look like it's cheaper

Things aren't actually expensive in Nigeria compared to other advanced countries. It is the purchasing power that differs.

There are people in Nigeria who earn over $10k dollars a month. If such people travel out of Nigeria to the USA,he will come back to tell you that cost of living in Nigeria is way too cheaper compared to the US.

I will rather earn $1k a month in Nigeria, than to earn $3k-$5k in America
have you been there or just hearsay

Today, Dollar is now 543 naira to $1.

https://punchng.com/breaking-naira-hits-all-time-low-of-543-against-dollar/#Echobox=1631204981-1

Nigeria is an import dependent country, which means the rising dollar costs, will impact almost every service and products, including CoS for data from the telcos. Inflation is shooting up at double digits, naira is wobbling whereas, income and earnings are still constant at 30k minimum wage.

But you Sai Babarians believe that there is no connection between earning power and cost of purchasing data. Awon eleribu!

Do u live in Nigeria at all?
How much does teacher received.
Was it not on this nairaland someone was asking if he should take a job of 25k?
How much does sales girl/boy receive?

U talk as if most employers in Nigeria pay above minimum wage.

I freelance on Upwork.
My friend keep quiet. Is upwork a nigeria company
and is freelancing a Job

the guy asked about a company paying up to one thousand dollars a month and you're mentioning freelancing and upwork.

Moreover freelancing is as unstable as water, your earnings do flunctuate. it's only a side hustle. and even at that it's hard to make such money due to the saturation of the market.

Someone did a thread showing the cost of data around the world in Dollars and some concluded from the thread that Data is cheap in Nigeria. This is not true at all. Data in Nigeria, like many other things, e.g. fuel. food stuff, is not cheap, but expensive. Very expensive!

Those who make these comparisons are only pushing out a false narrative based on false comparisons. What makes a product cheap or expensive is not the price tag on the product but the purchasing power of the buyers. Let's take a simple example.

In the USA, cost of 1GB of data is, according to the data available, $8.00, while in Nigeria, cost of 1Gb of data is around $2.3. Nigeria looks cheaper right? Wrong!

Someone looks at this as then says data is cheaper in Nigeria. But that is a wrong conclusion from a false comparison. The simple way to know which is cheaper is to bring in the buying power of the buyers.

In the USA, the average wage per month is $2730, while in Nigeria, the average wage is N30000 = $58. So without looking too far, a Nigerian who collects his wage will be able to purchase with his full salary, 58 / 2.3 = 25GB, while an American who collects his wage will be able to purchase, with his full salary, 2730 / 8.00 = 341GB

So how is it cheaper for the Nigerian? In fact, A Nigerian who collects minimum wage will spent it all on one bag of rice and transport home while an American who collects his minimum wage can buy 20 bags of rice and still have lots of change left.

I can go on and on and on, comparing products and services but the point is clear. Don't let anyone fool you that anything is cheap in Nigeria. Things are astronomically expensive in Nigeria right now
God bless you with more common and uncommon sense!

What you should say is that it is hard FOR YOU.
I have a developer friend earning $3,000 monthly. And this has been his major work for three years. He was even the one that introduced me to freelancing.
Me that just started six months ago is already earning something tangible.
Sit down there with your saturation mindset and continue blaming this useless government

Yea, true. IAM not your mate in freelancing
I started Upwork and fiverr 6 years ago.

You just want people to pm you so that you'll collect money to teach them how to make money on Upwork whereas the platform is getting more saturated everyday.

You only started 6 months and you're making noise. angry sad

freelancing is not a job. It's a side hustle that's why it's unstable and can't be scaled.

Also not everyone is an app developer to be freelancing. angry

PM me for what? When there are free threads on nairaland giving all the expo. cheesy
You think I have that time
The fact that you have been on it for six years and still treating it like a side hustle when others have converted it to their major source of income and even employing others with it says a lot about the paucity of your skills.

No carry your frustration wound me o! No be send you to have skills that is a dime a dozen in the market.

My last reply to you.

Paucity of my skills . Only one update, negative review or client complaint is enough to bring your income to zero or even ban your account. To make matters worse it's saturated And the platform rips people off.

They collect money for you to send connects to get clients. They also remove 20% of your income. Isn't that rip off

Who takes freelancing as a major source of income.? Even the freelancing threads have become dried because so many people have done it and had many horror stories and have gone on to do things that brings steady Income without them being a slave to a client and having to do interviews at 2am

Show us your account statement snapshot for the last 6 months, since it's your major source of income. cheesy

The real question is: Tell me what are the achievements of home-based players in CAN, WAFU, ACL etc. that shows they are worthy as the main base for selection to represent Nigeria instead of the foreign-based players.
