By Moses Emorinken, Abuja.....

Foremost human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana will be representing the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) in their legal battle with the Federal Government.

The chairman of Communication and Communique of the NARD, Dr Julian Ojebo, disclosed this to The Nation on Monday.

On August 16, barely two weeks after the resident doctors started the strike, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, through the Minister, Dr Chris Ngige, took the doctors to the National Industrial Court to explain why the “no work no pay” rule should not be applied against them.

The court however adjourned the case till September 15, 2021.

The NARD started the strike on August 2, 2021, after the Federal Government failed to fulfill its agreement made with them through a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Chief among the 12 demands by the doctors are: the payment of salaries owed 114 House Officers who are on the GIFMIS platform, withdrawal of the circular by the Head of Service removing House Officers from the Scheme of Service, payment of death in service insurance benefits to families of 21 doctors who died of COVID-19 in the line of duty, among other demands.

Details shortly…

Buh serious my ppl Let's look at this objectively.

1. MRTF - Not paid

2. Doctors on GIFMIS - Not yet migrated to IPPIS

3. Over 5 months salaries owed GIFMIS Resident Doctors - Not paid

4. Arrears of 2014, 2015, 2016 Salaries - Not paid.

5. Death in Service insurance benefit - Not paid

6. Controversial circular on HO and NYSC - Not withdrawn

7. Hazard allowance - No headway

8. August Salary - Withheld

9. Arrears of MRTF - Not paid.

10. Arrears of Minimum wage - Not paid.

The list continues...

Instead of doing the needful, the FG's representatives are busy carrying out campaign of calumny to misinform the poor masses.

Now, I wander.

On what basis is the Fg asking for the strike to be called off?

Maybe someone can help me out. I don't seem to understand why an NMA that should be in the forefront of the struggle be the one try to mess up the efforts their colleagues are doing. Infact the NMA president is not to be trusted.

I don't understand!

Ngige has things to answer. Highly incompetent. These are ppl that ASUU has been trying to meet. They called them on phone and they will not pick. They will come to their offices and they will be trying to evade meeting them. Only God knows what they did to Nard officials before going on strike. Strike is the only thing they answer to. Now when Nard resumed the suspended strike, the incompetent Ngige refused to see them for weeks. What a heartless man. Last yr this guys went on strike for this same issue and u are telling us up till now u are doing verification. Ok they gave u ultimatum and went on strike. U called them and they listened and trusted u. Signed all MOU plus MOA as usual and after months, nothing not even a single thing was done and u expect them to sign another paper with u. Who is fooling who. Ngige u will not go unpunished for the lives that are lost because of this strike by the Drs. U think we no dey follow events. Na to dey yarn nonsense for television and lying up and dan. God will soon punish u. Amen
