How To Compress Your Banner Ads For Nairaland (Photo) by lightheart(m): 5:14am On Sep 15, 2021
Compressing your banner ads properly will ensure they look good when you upload them on Nairaland (or any other platform). Maybe one day, Nairaland will integrate a compression API for its advertisers. smiley

Depending on the kind of banner, you can expect something between 10% and 40% size reduction. Nairaland requires the file size of banner ads must be less than 30kb. (See www.nairaland.com/1049481/how-place-targeted-ads-nairaland)

To achieve this, I use a couple of third-party app to compress the banners ads I produce. One of them is TinyJPG (www.tinyjpg.com)

How does TinyJPG work?
It compresses JPEG files with a perfect balance in quality and file size. It reduces the file size of your JPEG Images. This ensures your images are a respectable size for the platform you wish to upload it to.

Why use it?
Using this tool reduces images filesize down to about 80% and the difference to the eye is minimal, which makes it an excellent option for making images more efficient on any website.

Getting Started
1. Open www.tinyjpg.com/ in a new browser.
2. At the top of the webpage, click on the box “Drop your .jpg or .png files here!”
3. Select the image you would like to compress.
4. Click on Open.
5. Wait for image to upload and the word “finished” to appear.
6. Click “download” on the image you want to download.
7. Click on the downloaded image in the browser or go to the Downloads folder on your computer to open the image.
8. Save the image in the folder you would like the image to appear in.
9. Now you are ready to upload on Nairaland (or any other website)

On a final note, compressing the images we upload to the web is very important to optimize their performance on the website they are uploaded to.
