Information Officers in the employ of the Delta State Government have been given reason to smile with the plan of the government to increase the frequency of capacity-building sessions and exposure for them so as to bridge any communication gap between the governed and the government.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this while welcoming the first batch of 22 information officers from a two-day strategic communication workshop which held in Lagos State.

Addressing the officers, Mr. Aniagwu, said it was the mandate of the Information Ministry to position the state in good light and relate the policies of the government to the people and at the same time send communicate the pulse of the people to the government for further actions.

"Let me assure you that as long as I remain here, we will make sure that this training is done twice in a year. It does not matter where the trainers are coming from, we will choose relevant states where you will also have some form of exposure.

"As from next year, we will make sure that this training takes place in March and September. This will not undermine the in-house training done in the Ministry which will also be redefined. I wish we had all the resources; we would have extended more gestures to our staff because they are the strength of the ministry (information).

"Those in other departments are assisting us and are doing very well but there is a core mandate of this ministry which is to position the state in good light in the minds of members of the public and at the same time emphasize some level of feedback mechanism by relating the pulse of the people we are privileged to preside at the moment’’ he said.

The Commissioner commended the officers for their comportment during the training exercise in Lagos, stressing that he has no doubt that they will proceed to further impact the knowledge they have garnered to those who were not included in the first batch.

He cautioned the information officers to be diligent in their duties and uphold tenets of the civil service, stressing on the need for them to build a culture of respect and also improve their interpersonal relations with their superiors to get desired results.

Remarking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Paul Osahor, commended the commissioner for affording the officers the opportunity to become more proficient and exposed through the capacity-building workshop.

While briefing the Commissioner on the outcome of the training, the Director of Information, Mrs. Theresa Adiabua-Oliko who led the contingent of information officers, stressed their readiness to apply the knowledge gained in the discharge of their duties to justify the resources and time invested.
