Two possible reasons why Femi Fani-Kayode dumped PDP for the ruling party.

Former aviation minister and PDP presidential spokesman for Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, surprisingly dumped the opposition party for the ruling party just few hours ago. Prior to his departure, the former minister was a strong critic of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. No one believed he would ever join the party until yesterday when he officially announced his defection.

He was received by some members of the party including the party’s chairman and President Muhammadu Buhari at the state house in Abuja.

Many political analysts and experts predicted his defection because of his close ties with Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi state. The two have been seen running around and taking photos with each other, particularly at the Kogi state government lounge.

PDP had been experiencing series defections since last year, though this one came as a huge surprise. Three active and serving governors have already defected to the ruling party. They include; Ben Ayade of Cross River, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, and Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state.

However, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode is another prominent figure who has joined the list of defectors to the ruling party. Although, he didn’t disclose the main reason for his departure from the party. So, there might be a reasons for his action.

1. Political patronage. These men lives a lavish life. Being in opposition for the past 5yrs+ has been hell for many full time career politicians. (Strongest reasons)

2. Corruption cases (I doubted this because he has been very critical of Buhari led government even in the face of the series of corruption)

3. The children custody / support case in court with his ex wife. I also doubted this reason too
