Farming as portrayed by most Internet farmer is a very lucrative business. Farming especially crop farming success depends on so many factors and the most essential is the soil. How do one identify a fertile land a mistake with the soil is a fatal one. Imagine investing a large some on clearing operation and planting only for one to have a stunted growth. Experienced farmers in the house what steps do you take to identify good and fertile soil. Especially when you don't have access to laboratory test, Thanks

If you are renting the land, ask of the land history and how long has it been left fallow

It depends on what you are planting. No soil is useless. In addition, fertile soil is dark in colour.
