Sometimes I am shocked that some educated people come on the web space to make excuses for Dictator Buhari's consistent woeful policies.
Lagos Metro Rail cancellation in the 80s when this coup plotter came into power was one of the inexhaustible gaffes that made me realize he was no good. This was a project conceived by the then Governor Late. Lateef Jakande, that was meant to change the face and economic standards of Lagos. Dictator Buhari for reasons best known to him stopped this project at a loss of billions of Naira to tax paying Lagosians owing to contract breach. He cited incoherent reasons like high debt profile and underperforming economy as at the time. Now mind you, this project was one which had the capacity to generate revenue with the level of commerce in Lagos. Nevertheless, Buhari shut in down and never looked back. That unfortunate incident is the reason for Lagos transportation woes till date.
Today, this ethnocentric religious bigot is borrowing billions from the international communities to fund a Rail project from Nigeria to Niger Republic even when our debt profile is through the roof. A country where arms proliferation is being facilitated from, a country with no economic importance to the Nigerian state. I’m trying to reconcile these ridiculous developments in my head and it simply just wasn’t possible. Are Nigerians, especially the educated ones still holding brief for this administration in their senses at all?

GMB is a tribalist.

I hope any southerner that becomes the president in 2023, will also be as tribalist as GMB.

GMB have set a precedence.

True. Even those who collaborated with him to bring him to power knew he was an extremist. They probably thought he’d be manageable and wanted GEJ at all cost. Now within 8years, this bastard from Niger has destroyed the spirit of optimism in this country. The damage which cannot be remedied in the next 20years.

Exactly my thought. I was asking my friend who's a yoruba how they managed to vote in the disaster. we were together listening to Fela's ordeal in the hands of the dictator. Fela said " Animal wan dash me human right".

From Fela's narrative, everything happen today has happened before but yorubas calming "sophistication" colluded with the devil to remove Goodluck Jonathan, and today, the same yorubas are championing southern unity because they have been outsmarted by their accomplice.

Its funny indeed.

Though I feel your disgust but don’t forget that Buhari didn’t have above 60% anywhere in Yorubaland. Those 40% are human beings too and it was evident that GEJ wasn’t smart enough to endear himself to the SouthWest. It was a bridge he shouldn’t have burned. This was where politricking should have come into play by him but he was busy appeasing the North, building dumb unsustainable schools and folding under pressure even when he had a leverage to nip the BH issue in the bud because some idiots were saying, an attack on BH was an attack on the North. GEJ lack of stratagem led us to this dullard. I’m a Yoruba guy and I knew this monster was no good. He never commiserated with the families of those corps members and others his foot soldiers killed post 2011 election violence till date. His signature was dogs and baboons, shariah, kwarraption.

Anyways, the precedence is there now and we can only expect that the next president does 50% of what Buhari did to Southerners to the North too. I can bet these barbarians won’t be able to take it.

it would teach the North that nepotism and Ethnic bigotry can be played by everyone too

Sometimes you need to show a mad man that you too can be mad

I get you. But things won't move forward until the North learns to respect the south and that only comes when the south stands its ground.
The south begining to act in its interest is what it has failed to do for decades

Al leader can act in our best interest whilst still developing the nation can they not? Give us federalism, draft a new constitution ban open grazing get rid of Sharia law you don't have to be a bad leader to do all these things do you?

That's difficult to achieve without offending the North..
So we still end up with the south doing what they want to do for themselves.. Which are all the things you just listed

You exaggerated on a lot of issues about Jonathan, like burning the bridge.

But honestly speaking, I don't think discussing Jonathan is what appeals to me right now. So I will not go further.

Of course, but that's what makes it all the more tragic.

I honestly don't think Nigeria would recover again in our lifetime. The damage is too much. If it was only economic damage it's even better. The trauma to the socio-political fabric of the polity is severe and arguably irreparable...

True. Except we agree to total restructuring. When everyone develop at their own pace.

Even if Obama becomes president here, he will not succeed under the current structure.

I get you. Wish we could discuss failures of the last 6 years without going farther into the past but Nigeria politics is intertwined with actions and reactions. My point as per GEJ was that he could have made more friends than enemies where it mattered but he wasn’t a tactful politician, just a favored academician. That’s a close chapter now anyway.

I knew people were warned. We all did on this platform but guess a lost dog would never hear the whistle of a hunter. Was just wondering why someone whom halted an economy propelling project in the commercial capital of the country that was going to cost lesser in 1984 is borrowing billions of dollars to execute one that has no economic value today to a barren country. Can these Buharists educate us?

The north can be offended but the next leader hopefully will be very strong willed and will rule with a hard hammer the reforms will be difficult and offensive at first but we will see the benefit soon after I just pray we can find a leader like that because so far the leaders that have come out in previous elections aren't what we need at all.
