Good officiating! MU did all they could, Barca victory was expected. I think Carrick was too soft for this match. Hernandes should have been off the pitch at 60 minutes, I would have gone for experience then brought on Hernandes later. Berbatov should have played some part in this match, Anyway, we saw why Rooney is up there as one of the best, I absolutely love he and Villa's finish but I think MU need at least 2 other players of Rooney's level in that team. Congratulations Barca, TOTAL FOOTBALL is the way!

The camera at one point focused on SAF and you could see him shacking. If that doesn't show how good Barcelona are I dont know what does

I have always disliked SAF. He is an arrogant bully and its about time he retired.

Come to think of it. This is a man who is the manager of one of the richest club in the world. He has spent hundreds of millions of pounds on players over the years.
Yet he only has 2 CL titles in 25 years!!!
He was waaaayyy lucky to have won both cups; 2 late goals in 1999 and a JT missed penalty in ?2008.

If he were in Real Madrid, or any other club he might have been sacked.

I sort of second that. He's had such a free hand at United, small wonder he has never left. Plus, there is a lot of controversy about how the club has enjoyed the patronage of officials over the years, hence their success in the local league.

Small wonder at Pep Guardiola's comment about managers in England (Wenger in particular) not being under the sort of pressure that continental managers were under. For example, Real Madrid has only one title (King's Cup) in 3 years. That's failure by the standards of an average European giant club like Madrid. And believe you me, that cup is the only thing standing between Mourinho and the door right now.

See pple flapping their gums trying to tarnish a great manager cos he has lost a final. Just for d record SAF took over a slumbering club in United when he came over in 1986. A team that occupied may be d same status as Aston Villa does today. So to count 25 years of failure in d UCL is silly. Also in case pple didn't know d premiership had to deal with a ban from European competition in d 80's until d mid 90's. United did not get back into main European competitions until 95/96. So it is impossible to count 25 years. As for d rubbish about spending millions, richest club and getting sacked anywhere else. When he took over United weren't some millionaire football club with a wealthy Russian/Arabian owner to buy all and sundry. It wasn't a football that could always call on favors from d Spanish monarchy to bail them out of trouble. It was a club that hadn't won d league or europe since d 60's and require significant rebuilding on d field and off it.

What about the Cup Winners Cup victory in 1991, over Barcelona, whom they beat 2-1? Is that not a European competition?
By the way, English teams were only banned from Europe for 5 years, 1985-90, as a consequence of the Heysel events. At least use Wikipedia properly before you come and defend your manager.

D guy said "2 UCL titles for 25 years", now you are counting cup winners cup. When I said "main Europe" I meant d UCL (formerly known as Champions Cup) not d smaller ones. Are you agreeing with him or advancing your own argument? Cos I got no beef with you.

^^
I agree with him, that SAF has had a relatively long rope in England. It's not like he took the club from oblivion to glory. United have always been a top side in Europe.
My reference to the Cup Winners Cup was related to your assertion that United did not play in Europe till 95/96.
In 93/94, they played Barcelona in the group stages, drew 2-2 at Old Trafford, and lost 4-0 at the Camp Nou.
Re: Condolence Register For Manutd: Pls Sign In And Drop A Message. by montelik(m): 9:52am On May 30, 2011
My assertion was that Untied did not compete in d UCL till 94, I am not including eufa cup or cup winners. Cos that is not what he said, d guys arguments is 2 CL titles in 25 years. You can't count d years when United couldn't have played in d UCL and didn't qualify and get 25 years. Yes SAF has been given a long rope because he earned. Ask yourself what was United market value was in 86, what were d average expectations considering d last 20 years. History counts for jack, just ask Nottingham Forrest and countless others. United may have once been a force but when he got there weren't, not by a longshot and he helped turn around d club team. United were so far behind Liverpool in 86 it was ridiculous to imagine they would now be d most successful domestic side in England. Yes he does enjoy a lot of leeway and plenty of rope, cos he has more than earned it.

common, you can do better than that. we are all football guys here, and from the look of things most of the contributors on this thread have been following football for a long time. so like ajanlekoko said, you need to do your research properly before putting forward your argument.

SAF have been in the lime light for such a long time and have had all the support from the club and supporters alike. There have been huge financial investment in the club within that period as well. Man U have always been a top club. They won several titles in the 60s and 70s. Even in the 80s you referred to they were hardly outside the top half of the table.

Against this backdrop, 2 CL albeit lucky ones in 25 [or whatever years] is to say the least an under achievement. Food for thought for his followers.

On the emboldened, you couldn't have been farther from the truth.
United had not won the local league for the better part of 2 decades till Fergie arrived. How could they have been a top side in Europe if all they could boast of were 3 FA cups within that period?United were a sleeping giant till he single-handedly woke them up.United din't qualify for Europe's elite competition till he got there. How could they then be among the top European sides?
You don't have to lie through your rotten teeth to get a point across.Either that or your vocabulary needs updating.

Gibberish.
I guess this is an Arsenal fan,so there's no point responding.
A manger has 2 European Cups and 2 Cup Winners Cup titles (one with non-descript/oblivious Aberdeen of Scotland) and you stand here to tell us he has underachieved.
Funny that some people have some kind of opinion.

Right and wrong.

Yes i am an Arsenal fan and i am proud. I have been one since 1994, and i know only a few commentators in the sports section were born before 1994.

Secondly, 4 European trophies in 25 years in a club like Man United is a disaster and that is an understatement. United spends money buying players in the same category as the AC and Inter Milans, Real Madrids, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and recently Chelsea. And if 4 trophies in 25 years is all he could show for it, then goodluck to him and his worshippers.

You should be ashamed of this post.
I thought you could do better than that and not respond, but folly is ingrained in the Arsenal DNA.
How many European trophies has Arsene Wenger in all of his career?
Answer that, then I'll take you seriously.
till then, you're just an internet hippie searching for your next high.
1994 indeed.

If you must know, Arsene Wenger is as big a failure in that respect as Mr SAF. But AW can hold his head up and say, in my 14 odd years as manager of arsenal football club, i have only spent a fraction of what my rivals have dished out , yet i have reasonable domestic triumph, and been to the UEFA cup final and a CL final.

If you think i would jump to the defence of AW, then you must be more deluded than i envisaged.

Name me an outstanding manager and i would give him a standing ovation; JM, Pep Guardiola, Vicente Del Bosque, Franz Beckembauer, Bobby Robson, Johan Cruyff.

Abeg Mr whatever you call yourself, go sleep.

Don't be a ninny.Even if it is so difficult for you not to be one.
This is such a childish post,I don't know how to respond to it.
Mr. Steve McLaren took Middlesborough to the 2006 UEFA Cup final.Should he now beat his chest like Arsene Wenger?
Mr. Roy Hodgson did same with Fulham. What shall we then say?
So being to the CL final is now an achievemnt you can flaunt in my face as opposed to a winner who has won it twice. And you want to justify it with how much he has spent.
Wonderful stuff from a person who percieves himself as intelligent.
You must be a tool, really.Keep deluding yourself.
I wasn't asking you to defend Arsene Wnger. But love him or hate him,SAF is one of football's greatest.Fact.That's all i ask of your numbskullish self to acknowledge.
AW cannot be mentioned in the same sentence as SAF.Afterall,AW has no europen title wherever he has coached for nearly 30 years and SAF has 4.
I know it's hard for you to think properly before jumping in front of your computer in your cybercafe, but you need some perspective in your life.
How does Bobby Robson get ahead of Sir Alex Ferguson?Only in an Arsenal supporter's world, from an acclaimed 1994 supporter.
You need to reboot your brain, olodo.
Pot calling kettle black.
Re: Condolence Register For Manutd: Pls Sign In And Drop A Message. by snowdrops(m): 1:10pm On May 30, 2011
First of all, i am pleased it took you more than a minute before responding to my last comment unlike on previous occasions. It showed you took sometime to think it through. But sadly it seems each time you comment you spew more rubbish than the last time.

1. S. McClaren and R. Hodgson good coaches they are, are not in the same league as AW and SAF. Just like the latter two are not in the same league as JM and guardiola. JM has virtually achieved success in Europe in 5 years what it has taken SAF 25 years to do, and JM on a comparatively leaner budget. Pep more or less in similar fashion.

2. Bobby Robson God bless his soul, was an outstanding manager. If you don't know him, please there is something called www.google.com. Learn to use it.

3. I know your emotions are still raw after such a humiliating defeat by Barca, the second in 2 years. Even arsenal has won against barca twice in that period. Imagine your manager shaking so badly that person begin wonder if na sheet dey catch am grin grin grin grin grin
For the personal attacks, forget, i am still too much in a grandiose mood to care. I love teams that play the arsenal way, especially when they spank Man u.

VIVA CATALUNIA

LONG LIVE BARCELONA.
Re: Condolence Register For Manutd: Pls Sign In And Drop A Message. by Nobody: 1:46pm On May 30, 2011
Ha. ha.
I laugh in MandarinRubbish?I think you should look at yourself who says Sir Bobby can line up with the likes of Pep and Johan Cruyff.
Why switch your argument?A moment ago,it was SAF was under-achieving.Now it's Barca spanking United. Can you stick to one point, please?
Your slowness and dullness is really amazing really. If you really think Barcelona play the Arsenal way,I don't see any reason arguing with you.Arsenal are playing the Barcelona way.At least the trophy cabinet for the better part of a decade tells me so.
Please, stop displaying your ignorance.Arsenal fans are known to show how ignorant they are in a way similar to a naked madman on the street.
Sir Bobby hasn't achieved half as much as SAF.If you trully believe otherwisae, then goodluck to you.Again, denseness is a key to becoming an Asrenal fan.So I ain't surprised you're acting like a nitwit.Sir Bobby CANNOT line up with the mangers you listed.Simple.But you and your ilk are entitled to the odd faux pas.We are much used to it on NL.
The thing is,we at United know a good match when we see it.It's really not surprising that Barca won, given how good they are,and our manager knew it.Unlike you people who lose to Barca and blame everybody else but yourselves.
Yeah you beat Barca, but were still eliminated. In the overall context, the victory was pyhrric and therefore of no consequence.Perspective eludes you,so you still rejoice over a victory that in the end was insignificant,as it didn't improve anything for your team.
On the other hand,United,up until lately had a decent\good record against Barcelona.I understand how your erect, ion still rises each time you remember your " victory" over Barcelona, but United have done that years before Sir Alex Ferguson came on board. (Cup Winners Cup in the 80s under Ron Atkinson. . .).I should refer you to Google.com,because you're obviously in nedd of that.
As for the attacks,I'm not sure I attacked you.Rather it's your folly that led you to where you got yourself. And in closing,if you think JM and Pep didn't spend, keep fooling yourself.
Pep bought David Villa for an excess of 30 million Euros this season. How cheap is that?
JM got Sneijder,Etoo and Milito at Inter. Were they cheap?
Not to talk of the millions he spent in England with Chelsea. You think skinflint Wenger is a success because he doesn't spend?Apparently, your brain is missing,so you can't.
You claim SAF is lucky. What about JM's runs to the titles in '04 and '10?Weren't they hinged on game-changing decisions such as goals that should and shouldn't have been? Not to take away from his achievements, but even you know that to be succesful, you need a little bit of luck.
An ignoant mind like you deserves all the bliss you can get.Apparently,in your foolish bliss, you type.Afterall, there's a lot of freedomn these day.Includng freedom to exhibit your stu.pidity.

All this story about your manager not spending any money is just that. Story.

Arsenal`s season kicks off on the 13th of July with a friendly against Malasia XI. They are exempt from the first 3 rounds of the CL, and would only be joining at the play off stage starting 16/17 of August. While i respect your right to free speech here, please and please respect others right to not being misinformed.

It is indeed bizarre that man-ure is doing a victory parade after being battered. People in the house, how una see am. A bunch of losers celebrating victory Why didn't they do this before the UEFA CL? At least that's what Barca did. Or were they expecting to triumph at wembley. They must be more of a comedian than most of their fans.
