Dear brothers and sisters,[a] if I should come to you speaking in an unknown language,[b] how would that help you? But if I bring you a revelation or some special knowledge or prophecy or teaching, that will be helpful.
Most pentecostal Christians can open their mouths and speak in tongues but you hardly see those who can interprete among them. Please I want Christians in the house to contribute and no derogatory contribution please.
If nobody can interpret, how are they sure they are speaking to God or passing meaningful messages.

What you call special knowledge or prophesy , which are in fact secrets of the Kingdom of God, are not given us by Jesus Christ via a tongue but directly to our understanding- Matthew 13 vs 10 - 17 undecided

10 Then the disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?”
11 And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.
12 For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
13 This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
14 Indeed, in their case the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says:

“‘“You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive.”
15 For this people's heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.’

16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.
17 For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. - Matthew 13 vs 10 - 17
Those who pretend that this knowledge and revelation come via the speaking of tongues lie to you. undecided

That is because speaking in tongues or glossolalia is not a spiritual gift, it's just something we humans can do, like a baby trying to talk and forming syllables from what it has heard around it. There is nothing to interpret.

speaking in tongue is spiritual something 99 percent of humans no longer have.

a baby forming syllables is an example of a bad example to speaking in tongues

a human speaking gibberish to a baby n think he /she is speaking baby language is an example of some one speaking in tongues n thinks dey are communicating

Many christians still interpret tongues. I have and I still do. Interpretation of tongues is useful especially when ministering to other believers. If you don't plan to interpret, then it's better to speak to yourself and God only, just like in 1 Corinthians 14.
So OP, don't conclude christians don't interpret tongues. Many still do. I've had people tell me things I never told anyone through that medium.

There's no price for it. The only qualification is to be born again. Speaking in tongues and interpretation are what is known as prophecy. In many instances where people spoke in tongues in acts. They also prophesied.

Acts 19:2, 4-6
and said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They replied, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

Paul said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus.” When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus,

and when Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they began to speak in tongues and to prophesy.

If the only qualification is being born again, why can't all born again christian operate in the gift? Secondly, the gifts comes from the HolySpirit at his own will. The price their is fasting and pray. Those folks fasted and prayed like mad. And their fastings and fervent prayers broke into the realm that brought these gifts. 1 Corinthians 12:8-10
[8]For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
[9]To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
[10]To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

1 Corinthians 14:26
[26]How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

Lol, will you ask me to send my BVN and password too? They were personal issues I never told anyone. I also have received instructions and prophecies from the spirit of God for people through prophecy

Boss, show me from the scriptures where they said there's a price to pray. Although I agree that praying a lot will make you more sensitive to the spirit. But the gifts of the spirit come with the holy spirit at salvation.

The bible says he that is joined unto the lord is one spirit with him. So whatever comes with the spirit of God is available to you. The reason many don't function in these gifts is lack of desire and wrong information. Just like it is impossible to receive from God without faith, you can't operate in the gifts of the spirit well if you don't desire them or you have the wrong information.

When Paul was writing to the Corinthian church, he said they came behind in no gift.
1 Corinthians 1:7
[7]So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

However, he still called them carnal some chapters later. So, that also shows that any christian can operate in the gift of the spirit. You can't call something a gift and claim you have to work for it. If you're a Christian, just desire them like the bible instructs and be observant, you'll notice them manifesting.

There is a big difference btw having the gift and assuming that u av the gift. What many some folks calls prophecy today, is simply 4rm their own mind, not the mind of God. If u av the gift of God, it will be evident in ur life. I repeat, the gifts of the HolySpirit doesn't comes immediately to anyone who becomes a born again christian except the HolySpirit at His own will decides to do that on that believer. In most cases, the believer has to engage himself or herself in a fervent fastings and prayer b4 he or she can have those experience. Another way is by impartation of the Holyghost by or 4rm anointed men of God or Spirit filled believers.

The gifts are not an experience for the believer. They are part of the believer's nature. The gifts mean 'charisma' in the Greek, i.e freely bestowed, an endowment.

1 Corinthians 12:6-7
[6]And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
[7]But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man(every believer) to profit withal.

Manifestation here refers to the revelation of the spirit of God during salvation. This is when you have all the gifts/things of the spirit. Besides, in 1 Cor 12:1, the original translation actually says "Concerning Spirituals". Gifts there is italicized in the modern translation, it was added to help the meaning. Spirituals= Pneumatikon i.e things of the spirit, things in the spirit, or things pertaining to the spirit.

The gifts are the abilities of the spirit. It's like a Christian crying for God's power when God's power actually lives in him. So the gifts of the spirit are not an external addition, they come with the spirit. Just like it's normal for humans to walk and talk, the things of the spirit are for everyone who has the holy spirit. Prayer and fasting only help you to dominate your flesh and become more tuned to the spirit. Lastly, operating the gifts of the spirit becomes better with time and practice. Ask anyone who flows in the gifts, they will tell you their first time wasn't at smooth as now.

Lol, no, they aren't part of a believers nature otherwise every believer would have been manifesting the gifts. These are the ways the gift(s) comes:
1. By the HolySpirit at His own will(grace). Not even because of ur fastings or prayers. This could be during deep worship or fervent prayer in a gathering or church, most times conducted by an anointed men of God.
2. Impartation of the Holyghost
3. Individual fastings and prayers.

Having does not equal to manifesting. God doesn't force anything on anyone. Like I said, the gifts are abilities, freely bestowed. It's up to the believer to desire and exercise the gifts by faith.

1 Corinthians 14:1
[1]Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
[39]Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

U can't manifest what u don't have. The gifts aren't something u practice, No. There is a place in the Bible that says: Do all have the gifts of healings? Do all have the gift of working of miracles? 4rm this Bible passage, it's obvious that not every believer has these gifts. In the Bible, there people who were born again but didn't have or manifest these gifts, either Peter or Paul imparted them With the gift(s) by laying his hand on them. Let me explain. When Paul asked that question in the last part of Cor 12, the focus was on how to minister the gifts in a more excellent manner i.e to minister in love and in an orderly manner.

1 Corinthians 12:29-31
[29]Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
[30]Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
[31]But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

So the question was more like a rhetorical question, i.e even if you all have these things (gifts of healing, prophecy, apostles, teachers), seek to minister the gifts in the best way. The best gifts there refer to gifts manifested with love.

1 Corinthians 13:1-2
[1]IF I [can] speak in the tongues of men and [even] of angels, but have not love (that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God's love for and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
[2]And if I have prophetic powers (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), and understand all the secret truths and mysteries and possess all knowledge, and if I have [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but have not love (God's love in me) I am nothing (a useless nobody).

Meaning operating all the spiritual gifts and ministry gifts without love is futile.

On the issue of laying on of hands. What it does to help stir up the gift that is in them already through the power of God. It is similar to a situation where there is light but the switch is off, you can simply press the switch to make the light visible. But that doesn't mean there wasn't power supply available before. I have also laid hands on people for that many times. Whereas I didn't need to do so in some cases.

How sir? It's obvious the gifts are the abilities or faculties of the spirit. If they are of the spirit and you have the spirit, you have the gifts in you already. It's simple deduction. Having however does not equal manifestation, which is why many christians don't. Same way all christians have the spirit and not all christians show the fruit of the spirit.
