Today 1st of October

If Nigeria wasn't meant to exist as a country, God would not create me as a Nigerian, and I believe I can say the same for you. Ladies and gentlemen, Nigeria, is 61 years old today.
For 61 years, countless heroes of our nation have fought and strived against all odds for the existence and prosperity of our great nation, Nigeria. And I believe that the sacrifices that they made for our freedom wasn't and shouldn't be in vain.
For 61 years, countless young, vibrant men and women of our nation have fought and made the ultimate sacrifices for Nigeria’s continued existence. Go to the front lines, all the way from Borno, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, Benue, Yobe and to the Plateau in Jos, our brothers and sisters are gallantly standing guard, year in year out against the enemies of freedom and progress, and they weren't forced to do it - NO! They chose to fight for their country so that you and I wouldn't have to. So, that you and I can go about our normal lives, they came from all over the nation to fight! - the igbo from the East, the Yoruba from the South West, and the Hausa from the north, and they are making the ultimate sacrifices for our freedom every day!
And if you think that the best topic we have to talk about today is the topic of disunity and disintegration, then we should also talk about what we will tell the wives and mothers of the countless men that have died protecting this nation. Let us talk about the message we will take to their sons and daughters - that their daddies died for nothing. Then, we can laugh about how ungrateful we are.

Today, Nigeria is 61, we remember our honored dead, and we can guarantee that their sacrifice will never be in vain! We that believe that our future is tied to the future of our nation, those of us that know that when something is wrong with our country, we stand and fight to fix the wrong and to keep our nation prosperous, because we know that peace is not free! It is earned and not given, and to get it, you have to fight for it, not tuck tails and try to run away from your nation.

So, I call on all lovers of democracy, all those who know and believe that their stability is tied to the stability of their nation, all those who believe that the dark and trying times we are passing through as a nation today have come to pass and not to stay. Those of us that know that peace is not free and we have to earn it, those of us that have faith in the nation, that Nigeria will work, that we will prosper, and we will smile at the end. I challenge you to start rising and start championing the causes of our democracy, because we both know that only you and I can fix this nation, and nobody else. Because we both know that the future of Nigeria is tied to our future.

God did not create your ancestors as Nigerians. Lugard created Nigeria and his subjects come to known as Nigerian.
