Have you ever met someone who literally HAS to jump on every trend just to fit in? These people seem very hallow when you have a conversation with them because it's usually superficial. They have no strong opinions of their own. They also don't seem to have a personality or identity. They seek out to only befriend people with status. They only listen to music, wear clothing, buy things etc that are trendy for social points, not because they genuinely like said things. I know someone like this and it's bizarre. They're very alien to me because I don't understand them. Why are they like this? Is it insecurity? A void?
