There is currently tension in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State Capital after members of the Ebubeagu Security Network Shutdown New Building Materials in the State.

Speaking with IGBERE TV correspondent in Abakaliki, some of the traders said members of Ebubeagu stormed the New Building Materials in the early hours of Wednesday and locked up the place.

A trader who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity said they were asked to pay the sum of Five Hundred Thousand (N500,0000) Naira to compensate the owners of the land.

"When we couldn't pay the money, they sent Ebubeagu to come and lock up our businesses. You can see the whole place is Shutdown," the trader told our correspondent.

Nigeria is a depressing place honestly. Is this what the Ebubeagu fools were established to do? Same thing with the Amotekun idiots.

These regional security outfits were mainly setup to tackle security threats - ESPECIALLY from Fulani herdsmen and other similar threats. Now they go about arresting pick pockets, shutting down markets, and intervening in marital and civil disputes.

Who do us this kind thing for Nigeria?

If this story is true then l am highly disappointed. This is part of what the guests today 6th October 202 on Good morning Nigeria on NTA international raised what is the legal framework of this security outfit?Has it been enshrined in the constitution?Where does their jurisdiction start and end?

The high-handedness of those guys reeks to the sky, they aren't different from the defunct SARS. They go about terrorising people.

Some weeks ago, I and my friend were heading to Roban Stores to get some necessities, we drove through the streets of Kpirikpiri and at the junction that leads to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, we were intercepted by these dirty looking, ill-mannered, uncultured people armed with guns. The manner they stopped us was scary, I was stiff scared because I thought they were kidnappers. They asked us whom we were, we identified ourselves; my friend told them he was a pharmacist while me a civil engineer.
They asked for the documents of the car and everything was provided, they searched the car and found nothing.
They asked us for money but we refused. After we drove off, my friend told me that one of those guys sold cannabis, he explained to me that the small bag we saw him with contained the drugs, he equally made me understand that he had known that guy for years. I was shocked to high heavens, the stench of the cannabis pervaded the atmosphere and one could tell that he had already taken some doses.
The questions are:
1. Who empowers some ill trained touts with guns to secure lives?
2. Are the the powers that be aware of the high handedness displayed by those they empowered with guns?
3. What exactly is the duty of Ebubeagu, is it to protect or harrass people?
