Kaduna Traders Defy Government’s Order, Return To Kawo Market by lusid: 1:38pm On Oct 06, 2021
Traders in Kawo Market, Kaduna State, have defied the state government’s order by returning three weeks after the state suspended weekly markets in selected local government areas, including Kawo in Kaduna North Local Government Area.

Daily Trust reports that the Tuesday weekly market in Kawo was active on Tuesday when our correspondent visited as traders said they had no choice but to defy the government since no alternative was provided for them.

Even though there was a low turnout, Abdulaziz Muhammad, who sells grains said he was not bothered as more people and customers would turn up later in the day.

“This is the only weekly market around the metropolis where we can sell our goods in large quantity because not much profit is realised during the rest of the week.

“If I don’t come out to sell what I have to feed my family, the government will not feed me; they will not give me money to cater for my family. The government needs to provide another means for us. This is the only business I know and depend on and I have no other place to go to other than Kawo market,” he said.

On his part, Ibrahim Abdullahi, a tomato seller from Maraban Jos, said he defied friends and relatives’ warnings by coming to the market because he had no choice.
