But the truth is, as one of the most innovative technologies, the impact of AI can be felt throughout every facet of life — from the way we shop to how we use dating apps and how we work.

A crash course on AI

What is AI?
As common as it appears to be today, AI is a term that not many understand. That’s not surprising, considering how complicated the technology is. To understand AI, we’ll have to go back in time for a little bit.
Conversations about AI can be traced back to Alan Turing’s “Computing Machinery and Intelligence.” The 1950 paper asked the question “Can machines think?” and is an important part of the history of AI.
Building on Turing’s work, modern definitions of AI speak of how AI leverages computers and machines to mimic the human mind’s problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. In other words, as a field, AI combines computer science and robust datasets, to enable problem-solving.

What are the different types of AI?
There are two different types of AI — Weak or Narrow AI and Strong or General AI. The former, Narrow AI, includes all that we see in computers around us today. It refers to intelligent systems that have been taught to carry out specific tasks without being explicitly programmed to do so.
