The Anambra State Governorship Debate Group (ASGDG), a pressure group comprising 35 youth organisations, Thursday, said it has concluded plans to organise a platform where all the 18 gubernatorial candidates would interact with youth and women ahead of the November 6 poll.

Chairman of the ASGDG, AMB Uchechukwu Ekpere Paul, who stated this at press conference in Awka, maintained that the debate would help electorate to make inform decision with regards to whom to vote or not.

ASGDG, according to him, comprises about 35 Youth Organizations including Civil Society Groups, Market unions, labour unions, transport unions, women societies, religious and other Professional Bodies like Nigeria Must Be Great Again (NMBGA), Nigeria Youth Decide (NYD), Diamond Youth Transformation Initiative (DYTI), Noble Citizen Human Welfare Development Initiatives, and Youth Wing Christian Association Of Nigeria.

Others are Social Liberation Vanguard (SOLV), Citizens Likemind Forum, Jama'atul Nasiru Islam (JNI), Yoruba Youth Living In Anambra State, Council Of Yoruba Youth in Anambra. (C.Y.Y.A), Youth Assembly Of Nigeria (YAN), Ideato Citizens Forum (ICF), Coalition of All Non-Indigene Of Anambra Town Union (COANATU) and National Union of Anambra State Students(NUASS).

"As part of its activities to ensure conduct of free, fair and credible election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Group wishes to use this media parley to reiterate her resolve towards ensuring that the forthcoming November 6, 2021 Governorship election in Anambra State is held without bitterness.

"The Governorship Debate is aimed at galvanizing Ndi Anambra and afford them the singular opportunity to take advantage this Platform offers them to interact, assess, examine and evaluate the pedigree and potentials the contending governorship candidate have to offer to the citizens and residents of Anambra State, especially THE YOUTH POPULACE.

"The outcome of the debate will make the voters have informed opinion on what the candidates can offer the populace in the context of proffering solutions to the myriads and the daunting challenges ravaging the State, including Political, Economic, Social and environmental issues. On the other hand, it will afford the candidates an ample opportunity to air their views and Visions as they affect the cause and interest of the youths who constitute 60 percent of the 5.4 million population, amounting to 40% of the total Youth Population in the State.

"Apparently, we regret with dismay the heightened Security challenges in recent days and wish to reassure the Participants as well as the Candidates that Proper Security details have been achieved and adequate security provided for the debate.
However, we wish to appreciate the South East leaders in their recent effort to ameliorate the security challenges in the zone. More so, we call on Anambra State Government to do more in interfacing with the aggrieved members of the society in order to improve on the security situations in the state. If this is achieved, we believe it will guarantee adequate security of lives and properties of both the citizens and residents and bring about the conduct of the governorship election come November 6 2021," he added.

Contributing, comrade Nwabueze Kingsley, Chairman of Youth Wing, CAN and Comrade Nonso Oguno, appealed to Government at level to dialogue and appease the aggrieved parties so as to bring lasting peace, and allowed the interest of youth to prevail.

On his part, Hon. Vincent Anthony Ubani, DG Nigerian Corporate Social Responsibility Fund, specifically urged the federal government to ensure that Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of IPOB show up at the next adjourned court date as well as to fastrack judicial processes leading to his release.
