What do you mean by no viable information to give the police? No eye witnesses? Were you driving the cab? After it happened, didn't you raise any alarm? Even if you were, nobody was around? All you need is someone to corroborate your story at the police station. You had some kind of receipt with you, the person that paid you can attest to the time you were paid, they can compare it to the time you were robbed. We know they are useless, but you reporting to the police will make your story more credible with your uncle. You not going to the police immediately complicated it

go to the police station & make a report. When you are telling your Uncle, let him know you've already file in the report with the police. If possible snap him the case report note. At least, that will sort out the trust issue I think.

Even though it's not easy to make a report in this case. It's better you do. Make a report for trust issues. Those criminals might have gotten arrested without your knowledge.
