Does marriage really favour only women?
Why do women celebrate marriage like it's a kinda trophy while men hardly do that?
I have also come across this notion and I just feel like unraveling the mystery behind such ideology. Go to Facebook and other social media platforms you will see marriage posts of women celebrating being married, their friends also partake in celebrating in their joy but to be very honest I seldom see such about men.

It's because marriage is their retirement package, moreso, the fear of loneliness is finally conquered. Women fears loneliness a lot.

The fear of loneliness is not unique to women and marriage as a retirement package is an idea continually sold to them by men whose egos are majorly disconnected from reason.

To this day, the vast majority of women are abandoned to raise their children alone by those they were formally married to and so, I don't think those who hold that so-called opinion are themselves in touch with reality. I am certain many of you here were raised by your mothers- your fathers no longer in the picture.

True here. My dad has not paid my fees since primary school. My mom paid my fees to the university that's why she gets all my money now and it's same for many of my friends. I don't know where men take care of their families but it definitely not in Nigeria.

The fact that both your dad failed in his responsibility doesn't mean that you should generalise.

This isn't a generalization. Abandonment is a real phenomenon in Nigeria - has been reported so for decades - though like many other problems, it continues to be ignored.

I am glad your daddy is your hero...but that shouldn't be reason for you to turn a blind eye to the realities on ground.

You are economical with the truth. Men take care of their families because its their responsibility and they hardly complain. But women when ever they do take care of the family they complain because they sees it as not their responsibility, most women come in to handle family responsibilities when the man is not performing either due to loss of source of income and others

Women celebrate everything like a trophy: marriage, baby shower, birthday, graduation, wedding, Etc. It's not limited to marriage.

Marriage is the only way most African women level up in life,hence the reason they celebrate it like a trophy. If you go through the thread you'll notice 99% of the female commenters were advising the OP to marry a poor and uneducated woman with baggages (many siblings+parents that will be depending on him). If the reverse was the case, they'd never give the same advise.

Who wouldn't like the idea of being free of financial duties for life? Having all your bills being paid for by someone else.

So, my friend, that is the reason why most African women see marriage as a do or die affair, and also celebrate it like trophy. Even while they're still in NYSC or university, they've already started wishing to get married. Marriage is the ultimate priority of the female folks.

No matter how any clout chasing female try to claim otherwise on social media,it wouldn't change reality.

A good marriage is a trophy. If people can celebrate their new cars, houses, degree, hairdo, even eyelashes, I don’t see why we try to nail some women for celebrating marriage. However, when reality starts to hit, you would definitely see the same women calming down. They will stop posting pictures of the husband and start posting only pictures of their kids.

The same women that are quick to celebrate marriage are the same ones that most times initiate divorce.

In all, I still think a GOOD partner is a special gift. It is not of God that man should be alone. This doesn’t necessarily mean marriage, but companionship. Many Nigerian marriages lack companionship.

Some were arguing blindly that women are the reason men die early ignoring the fact that men are genetically weaker reason we loose more baby boys than girls when it comes to infant mortality or boys are even more predisposed to neurodevelopmental disorders (Autism,ADHD etc), also ignoring that men have poor health seeking behaviours and seek validation from risky lifestyle.

People always think it is marriage they need, but they soon realize it is long term companionship they crave for. That is why they will be married but finding succour in churches, beer parlours and various vaginas/pricks.

If my man is a good partner and father, removing tradition, I would be very fine with him. If he marries me and isn’t doing this, I would seek the fastest way to get out before I run mad inside a marriage.

True. Marriage would never be compulsory, but for people that want to marry, they should marry by all means.

God created Eve from Adam, a clone of Him in the other gender because Adam was the only human ever to be alone on the Earth/Eden - the first ever created created.

After that the same God also created Eunuchs. So companionship is a choice not a mandate.
