Abuchi Modilim has been announced winner of the 2021 edition of Arojah Students Playwright Prize.

Modilim of the University of Nigeria Nsukka grabbed the literary star prize of N150,000 with his play, 'In Saint Mulumba'.

The Founder and Artistic Director, Arojah Royal Theatre, Om'Oba Jerry Adesewo announced this on Saturday at the 2021 Independence play titled, 'What The Hunter Saw' written and directed by Makinde Adeniran.

Adesewo said the literary prize award which is supported by MacArthur Foundation, National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners, NANTAP and Association of Nigerian Authors, ANA is a planned effort by Arojah Royal Theatre to harness and harvest young talents in the industry from the university community, who will deploy Playwriting as a tool for cultural expression, especially against the act of oppression.

Adesewo who is also the Director Media and Publicity of NANTAP further stated that apart from the prize, winners and all those who took part in the competition will enjoy a mentorship with veterans in the industry to hone their skills in the art, while effort is being made to secure partnership for the puication for the anthology of plays from the competition.

Also, Ojo Joshua Miracle of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife whose work 'Hope In Pains' got honorary mention along with UNIBEN's Adekeye Segun Lukman's 'Clamour of Agony' smiled home with N50,000 each.

The maiden edition of the prize in 2020 produced as winner, Ojo Joshua Miracle of Obafemi Awolowo, Ile-Ife with the play, Justice: Mirage, only to return to the podium again this year as the first runner up.

Kudos to the organizers of this award, this is the kind of things that should be organized to develop our youths for better societal goals. They should keep it up, Nobel Prize started this little.
