We have seen many people, even the educated, laugh, joke about size of a state or region compared to other states in Nigeria.

We have all seen that size of a state, region or country has absolutely nothing to do with the wealth, well being of the people of the area.

Though Kaduna is larger than the SE, but what has that got to do with the economy of the area in real terms?

Lagos is smaller than SE, but it has more wealth than SE region and the big Kaduna state.

Also Lagos as small as it is, has a population more than Kaduna state.

SE as small as it is has more than 50% of diaspora remittance of about $20 billion per year, greater than all 19 northern states put together, with their massive size.

So what has land size really got to do with it...

Mocking and joking with land size is at best...childish.

Okay seen.
He also said one LG in kaduna is larger than Lagos.
He said all that to drive home the point that Kaduna is a large state.

Spin.

Someone might make an important pronouncement, but a journalist might believe that the pronouncement was not sensational enough, or he might not like the person making the pronouncement, so he'll tweak a few words here and there, or select a headline that focuses on a minor thing that was said, and boom, he has completely altered the public's possible reaction to the pronouncement.

El-Rufai said that Kaduna state was bigger than the entire south-east, but you need to understand the context in which he made that comment. The important thing that he was saying is that the territory of Kaduna is too big for that number of policemen to effectively police. He didn't say that Kaduna was better or worse than the south-east and his pronouncement should not be a cause for stupid bragging and arguments.

These kind of comparisons are done all the time. For example, many international news outlets always say that Boko Haram once controlled an area of Borno that was bigger than Belgium. It has never been taken to mean that Borno is better than Belgium, so why the controversy over El-Rufai's remarks?

Oops! I was going to post this link as an example. Notice their reference to the size of Borno and Belgium https://www.cfr.org/blog/borno-state-increasingly-isolated-boko-haram-threatens-roads
