Hello guys, I believe this will be the best section to post this.

I've been independent since I was like 18 years old. I'm currently a final year student, and I've sponsored my way since I was in SS3 up until now.

Since I gained admission into the University, I have lived in a family (maternal) compound. I was paying all kinds of bills except rent.

About a month ago, I was given 3-days notice to vacate the portion of the compound I was occupying (a self-con). This came as a big shocker for me as I was unprepared and very broke at that time. I moved in with a neighbor, and my living condition has not been delightful.

By the grace of God, I was able to raise about 400k from my business ( I freelance on Upwork). I paid about 280k for a self-con apartment 2 days ago (Yes, houses in Calabar are expensive).

The apartment I paid for was recently built, and I will be the first tenant to move in. Now, here's where the problem lies, the apartment does not have a borehole yet, they rely on water-board, and the water supply in Calabar is terrible. I feel cheated because I simply churned out 250k, and sometimes I will be going outside my apartment to get water.

I blame myself for not taking my time to inspect the compound. The agent I used was not sincere; as a matter of fact, because of desperation, I paid about 6 agents, and I discovered "these so-called agents are a bunch of time wasters and insincere lots, who are just after inspection and agent fees".

I've met the landlord and talked to him about the water situation, and he told me he has plans of fixing a borehole but maybe not anytime soon.

So yeah,as a first-timer I believe I made a mistake in renting this apartment. Any advice for me, will be much appreciated.

Please pardon any typo or grammar errors.

This is the main thing. You should've inspected. But, I guess this is one of those first-timer mistakes.

Most Agents will finesse/cheat you, especially when they sense desperation. Will thunder fire them? Yes, of course.

Trust me, the landlord is not fixing anything. It will take serious intervention before he fixes it. You have paid and the money is what he's concerned about. You should've made your mind known before signing and paying. You can still report him to relevant authorities or sue him to pay back if he breached any contract, but I just hope you had a good contract/agreement before moving in.

It happens. Being a first timer. Buy a drum, pay abokki pipu to fill it up for you. That's if retrieving your money from the agent and landlord fails.

Agents are known for Painting pictures of holes as paradise and giving out high priced apartments they can't afford to pay for angry

Some of them live in shops here in Lagos angry

Just buy a big drum and let aboki fill them up.

Shit happens.

Buy a drum or 2. Get aboki/ ‘mai ruwa’ to fill for them for you.
Keep his number for regular fill ups.

Cheers

Ma'am, would you be giving him money to pay those 'aboki' people whenever he needs water?

I suggested he tries getting back his money. But you and I know how these people behave when it comes to refunds So, this would be a last resort if the former fails.

You've made a mistake already. You can rent your place out to someone else and get somewhere else to stay.
Note that you might have to rent it out a bit lesser than what you paid for it.

Houses in Abuja are more expensive o.
