How Lekki toll gate
Was painted red
With the warm crimson fluid of citizens

The fears, the tears, the anguish, the tensions.

We will never forget
How so many
Were left fatherless, motherless, childless and even hopeless
How some others
Were left injured and incapacitated for life.

The rain of bullets and the pools of blood

How our supposed heroes killed our true heroes.

Yes! We will never forget
The deceits
From the ones who ought to have protected us
Who ought to have defended us
Who should have listened to our pleas

Their manipulations of the camera.
Their threats on other protesters

Their denials of it all.

That very black Tuesday
