Hello all.

My cousin's wedding is coming up in December and she wants to avoid the crowd at the Ikoyi registry, which is a federal registry by opting for a local government registry, preferably Ikeja registry.

However, she and her soon to be hubby have some valid concerns as they plan to travel abroad very early next year. Their concerns are:

1. Are issued certificates at the local government level different from the one issued at the federal registry? E.g, the Ikeja registry certificate.

2. Does the U.S. or U.K. embassy recognise registry certificates such as the one issued at the Ikeja registry or do they only recognise and acknowledge the one issued at a federal registry?

3. Are there implications of choosing to have one's civil wedding at a local government registry?

4. Is the procedure to register at a local government registry the same as that of the federal registry (that is online) or does one need to do so physically at their office?

PS: She and her man are obviously weighing the option of having their civil wedding at the Ikeja registry but can't do much as there is little or no information online concerning the questions asked. I'll appreciate the input of those who are experienced in this regard.

My Husband and I used Ikeja local government registry 6years ago and same certificate was used for immigration to the USA early this year. Just have other supporting evidence e.g wedding pictures, pictures of family members at the wedding, pictures taken in the course of their relationship etc.
