Even when a family has owned a beloved pet its entire life, there is no knowing when tragedy may strike. On Friday April 28th, a 1-year old boy was attacked by his grandmother’s 6-year old dog – a Rhodesian and Mastiff mix. The 120-pound dog bit the child around the head and shook violently. The boy was with his family at his grandmother’s house to celebrate his birthday, which had been the day before. As the dog attacked the child, the child’s grandmother and family members attempted to pull the dog from the boy.

The boy was rushed to the Pediatric Emergency Center at St. Rose Hospital by EMTs. Unfortunately, emergency doctors were not able to save the boy and he passed away at 1.45 am Saturday. If you or a family member was injured or killed in a Las Vegas animal attack, contact Benson and Bingham for a free legal consultation today.

Earlier this month, two goats were killed and another was injured when two neighborhood dogs jumped over the fence surrounding Sylvie Guerrero’s small Las Vegas farm. The goats were attempting to protect smaller newborn goats also held in the yard. The dogs were taken away by Clark County Animal Control, however, the next day they were returned to their owner, who was cited for not keeping the animals restrained. Ms. Guerrero states that after the attack, her back yard goat pen looked more like a battlefield than a small farm. If you, a family member or a beloved pet have been attacked or killed in a Las Vegas animal attack, Benson and Bingham can assist you in getting reimbursed for hospital costs, veterinary costs, lost work and even pain and suffering.

However, dogs attacking humans or other animals aren’t the only Las Vegas animal attacksthat have recently happened. 35-year old Steven Dozier shot himself in the foot with a rifle as he loaded it. Mr. Dozier intended to shoot a feral cat that was running around his back yard. While it is legal to kill an animal that interferes with livestock or is generally causing problems, Clark County Animal Control requests residents to contact them. If you or a family member has been injured by a Las Vegas animal attack, contact Benson and Bingham.

In February, 9-year old Alexis Gates was attacked by pit bulls in yet another Las Vegas animal attack. The young girl was near her home walking along Ranch Drive and Washington Avenue when a pit bull came running up on the girl, without being provoked, attacked. The young girl still bears the scars on her upper lip and leg where she was bitten by the much maligned breed of dog. Alexis’ mother, April Gates, believes the dog is owned by neighbors. Las Vegas animal authorities cited the owners for the dog not being spayed or neutered but the pit bull was not removed from the home.
