How to score high in jamb

Jamb is an examination organized to qualify registered candidates for admission into the university.

People usually debate on the topic that jamb is easy compared to Waec. I strongly disagree due to several experiences. But that is a topic for another day. What I'm sharing with you right now is the exact same strategy that I used to score above my cut off score and secure admission into the university.

These are the things you should do:

Know your subject combination

This is the first step to attain great results. Look for the jamb syllabus, pick out your subjects and start studying.

Know your examination centre

Don't assume you know. Locate the examination centre a day before the exam.

Find a reading technique

Most students struggle with retaining what they study. That's why some students are reluctant to read. The problem is that they don't have a studying technique.

There are different ways to study:

A. Read and write out important information

B. Read while listening to music with a moderate volume

C. Read in group

D. Ask yourself questions and answer them

E. Memorization.

Just find out the reading method that works best for you and deploy. Also, find a comfortable environment to increase your focus and boost productivity.

Register for jamb tutorials

This is optional if you can study and grasp information on your own without needing the assistant of a jamb tutor. Whether you enroll for a jamb tutorial or not, you still have the full responsibility to study.

Study past questions.

It is no news that jamb repeats questions year after year. This is a top notch secret. Jamb organizers don't have the time to start compelling new questions every year. What they simply do is pick out past questions from recent years. Sometimes they just change the wordings of the questions. Take note of the questions that appear more often from past questions, these are key topics you should read over and over again before the examination date.

Understand how jamb works

Jamb can be very tricky with their answer options, you need an extra eye to look out for details before picking your answer. Let me give an answer.

What is the full meaning of U.B.A

A. United Bank of Africa

B. United Bank for Africa

C. United Bank in Africa

D United Banks in Africa

E. Unit Banks for Africa

Obviously, you need an eye for details to spot the correct answer. This is one of the reasons jamb is difficult. The good news is that being difficult does not make it impossible. In fact, no mission is impossible.

Back to the question, the correct option is B. Take note of the simplest details as possible. There's a big difference between -1 and 1. Just pay attention to details and start with the subject you're most comfortable with to save you time. Time is expensive in the examination hall, you can't afford to spend it by pondering about questions you're not sure of the correct option. Just do a quick guess work and move on.

If you're not sure of the correct answer , it's 50/50 chance to pick the correct option. Whether you waste time to ponder on the correct option or you just do a quick guess work on the options provided for that question, your chance of getting the answer correctly is still 50/50. So why waste time on a question you're not sure of ?

Accountability

find a mentor or trust worthy friend who can inspire you to be at your best and stay consistent. You may not need anyone to hold you accountable if you can do the job alone.

Finally, does your success depend on your hard work ? No !

Risk, luck, hard work and other factors beyond your control contributes to any success narrative. It's actually pride to say that your success is a product of only your hard work, but to be honest, the more hard you work, the more success you get.
