A survey by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) shows that the price of bread in Enugu State, Nigeria, may rise as much as 200 percent before the end of 2021.


From August through October this year, the price of the food has skyrocketed -times two of the initial price - which has forced many families to divert to other food products.


There are many people who prefer bread to any other food; now that the price has risen, what would be their fate?


The price of the product is likely to increase further in the coming months. This is based on a survey carried out by NAN in Enugu State.


Bakers in the country have attributed the continuous increase in the price of bread to the unimaginable high cost of baking materials, including factory rent and wages, which has made many of the producers leave the business.


When NAN interviewed some of the bread producers, they said they have no other option but to increase the price of bread due to the high cost of the materials like yeast, sugar, butter and flour.


They also said this development has made some bakers to produce low quality breads; and many people now find it difficult to buy the product, especially the common man.


They also cited that the materials they used in making one bag of flour early this year, is now used in making half a bag.

why can't rich bakery company go into wheat farming, by wheat refine machine and have your flour at very cheap rate. a production company without vision on how to generates their own law material in future will always complain. you complain about labour when you haven't started creating jobs.

It has already increased, #250 bread before now is #400 while the #400 now is #650/#700. We need to thank our President for performing so well in making the common masses food so expensive... No President has done so much to damage this country like the one we have presently.
