Many people feel like they are stuck in a bit of a rut with their career or may be bored with the daily grind. Taking a break from staring at your computer screen for hours on end sounds pretty tempting, those that are brave enough to take the leap and embark on a sabbatical are rewarded greatly in many other ways.

Taking a career break really can change your life in ways that you may never have thought possible. There is a strong possibility that you will come back feeling happier and fulfilled after taking time out from work. In the long term, it can also benefit your career, as employers are often looking for potential employees that have travelled. You will also discover a newfound confidence as you will learn new skills while you are away which, will be invaluable when you get back.

A Sabbatical in Africa
Once you have decided that you really want to take a career break or a sabbatical then the next step is deciding where you want to go and what you want to do. It will involve a lot of planning but undoubtedly be worth it. One of the most popular choices for a sabbatical at the moment is being a volunteer in Africa. Going to volunteer in Africa is possibly one of the most rewarding experiences that you could have, and there are many benefits to undertaking one of the many volunteer abroad programs. One of the best things is being able to connect with community and working as part of a larger team to make a difference in a tough environmental and economic climate.

Research and Support
There may be a cause that you feel particularly strongly about, or maybe you need some ideas of different places in Africa that offer volunteer abroad programs. There are several different ways of volunteering either through a profit organisation, a charity, or perhaps a school or hospital. The best way to start is to research online.

There are many different companies who specialise in volunteer in Africa programmes and they can give you all the information you need so you can choose the right experience for you. Not only will they help with the right sort of organisation to suit your needs, they will also help you on a practical level, from your medical needs and any vaccinations you might need to accommodation with a host family or other people that are taking on the same volunteer program abroad.

Career breaks or sabbaticals if organised properly give you the opportunity to grow as a human being, they are also a great way of networking and simply providing opportunities you might not have thought about before.
