To arrest the current drift of the Nation into the precipice, Team New Nigeria, TNN, a new political organisation, formed in 2020 has called on Anyim Pius Anyim to join hands with them to rescue Nigeria. The president of the group, Mallam Modibbo Yakubun Farakwai, had told Anyim during a courtesy visit in his office, November 3, 2021, that his pedigree attracted the attention of the group into luring him into their folds. Modibbo maintained that Anyim's role in stabilizing the National Assembly when there was the slippery 'Banana peels' that swept off every successive leader of the National Assembly, his impeccable performance as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and his immutable contributions in the restoration of peace in dying days of the Yar' Adua administration, have all convinced the group that he is eminently qualified to be part of the movement called Team New Nigeria, whose mission is to chat a prosperous new course for Nigeria.
Also speaking, Dr. Adebayo Shittu, the immediate past Minister for Communications and the South West Zonal Coordinator of the group told Anyim that Nigeria has been struggling to survive; the former minister who asked Nigerians to pray for the success of the Buhari administration, described Anyim as a patriot.
He noted that the fear of a possible collapse of the entity called Nigeria prompted the movement of people that cut across all segments of the country, from Sokoto to Ebonyi, from Lagos to Bayelsa to come together under one umbrella called Team New Nigeria to spread the message of peace and love to the people. Shittu stated that the movement is not about a political party nor about a particular politician but about the need for excellent leadership that will usher peace and love among Nigerians.

Presenting the goals of the group, Dr. Mohammed Shaibu, former gubernatorial aspirant in Kogi state and the National Publicity Secretary of the body said, the ideas behind the formation of Team New Nigeria is to bring back Nigeria's lost glories in its unity, peace and love for one another. Shaibu assured Anyim that the group decided to woo him into their folds because the visions of the group are in tandem with what he stands for.

Responding, Senator Anyim told his audience that this is not the first time that destiny will be beckoning on him for a rescue mission for Nigeria. He recalled that similar circumstances had thrown him up to assume the leadership of the National Assembly. Before his ascension into the of office of President of the Senate from 2000 to 2003, Anyim narrated, there was what was being described then as "banana peel" in which everyone who assumes leadership of the Senate falls by the way side within a twinkle. But according to him, God did not just bring him up to lead the Senate and fall like his predecessors but instead, He ensured that the mission of stabilising the system bestowed on his shoulder was not only achieved under his tenure but has been achieved for subsequent tenures of the leadership of the National Assembly after him. Anyim believes that with the current discontents pervading the country, that similar circumstances have again beckoned on him to join other patriots once more to lead Nigeria out of the woods, saying, the "structures I left behind in the National Assembly had delt a permanent blow to the monster called banana peel in the system and has maintained continuous stability till date in the Third Arms of the government. Anyim again reminded his guests that same destiny had once beckoned on him during the turbulent days of late Yar'Adua administration. He recalled that he single handedly led a group of eminent Nigerians to persuade the 8th National Assembly to resolve the political logjam then which resulted in the Doctrine of Necessity that eventually paved a straight curve on the problems of who leads Nigeria at that time.

Continuing, Anyim told the group that what many have described as rumours that he wants to be the president of Nigeria is rather real. He emphasized that the desire to restore Nigeria to its past glories and bring peace, brotherly love to the people are his driving force. According to him, "2023 will be a defining moment in Nigerian political history". "One significant factor that will be experienced going to 2023 elections he said, is that whoever becomes the next president of Nigeria will either be ex this or ex that but will no longer be based only on past military experiences". He then enthused, "I want therefore to be the president of Nigeria because I believe that rebuilding Nigeria is possible, I want to be the president of Nigeria because I believe that returning Nigeria to its past glory is possible".

He repeated to the group that the feat he achieved in the Senate will be replicated in the executive. According to him, the magic is simple, "I stabilized the Senate by ensuring total inclusiveness and giving everyone in that hallowed Chamber equal sense of belonging". "The same openness, the same inclusiveness, the same respect for humanity and institutions will be carried along to the executive, he assured his audience.

Anyim however expressed delight that a group like Team New Nigeria is sharing the same aspirations, the same spirit of a United Nigeria that is equally driving his aspirations. For the fact that the spirit of the group also agrees with his own spirit, Anyim thundered, "I will not only accept the offer to join the group but I will ask that I am instantly decorated with the insignia of the group and inducted as a full member of the TEAM NEW NIGERIA".
