A Short Story. by Lama70(m): 4:21am On Nov 09, 2021
On a certain day, long time ago, a toad was hopping around it's vicinity in search of what it would eat. Then came along a man and his two little children walking right behind him.
Suddenly the two children chorused: "Father, come and see this toad". Apparently, their father who had passed by the toad without noticing it's presence turned to look at the direction his children were pointing to. Upon sighting the toad he picked a piece of wood from the ground and beat the toad to death. Thereafter, they proceeded on their journey.
Moments after it's death, the soul of the toad departed and went to where the souls of dead toads go to. The abode of it's creator. There, the toad stood before it's creator with a heavy heart.
However, while standing before it's creator for judgement, he observed that the creator was looking beyond it's presence. Creator was looking down towards the earth which the toad had just departed. Then out of curiosity, the toad turned to look at the direction as well. Behold, the Creator was looking at a passer-by who was endlessly flogging the dead toad! This was bizzare, the toad thought to itself.
Having watched such a sordid spectacle, he turned to it's creator, misty-eyed, and cried loud: "My Creator, when you created me I had no teeth. Therefore couldn't bite. I only hopped from one place to another. Therefore couldn't run. I lived and fed myself mostly on dead insects and plants. I lived in the most abandoned places. I never shared their food or drinking water. I was never a threat to them. Why did they kill me?".
This story is the same as that of the hapless and tormented in the the society today.
