Should I Dive Into Blockchain Development? by Shop24seven11: 10:26am On Nov 11, 2021
Hello people.

Urm, actually, I started coding a little over a year ago, even though I started building websites with WordPress and blogger as early as 2014.

At this point, I am deep into frontend development. I work with JavaScript and its frameworks React.js and Next.js. I am fairly good at frontend development and hope to dive into backend development by next year.

Now, I recently came across the blockchain development and web 3 discussion on twitter and somehow, I picked interest in it, however, I didn't go further with learning it because I had so much on my hands and I was hoping to at least, start earning with frontend before concentrating on any other technology.

At the same time, I feel like I'm missing out on a lot by not diving into blockchain and web 3 development at this point. I mean the opportunities and everything. But I'm also afraid that I may fall into another endless loop of learning and take time before I am fit for a job opportunity in blockchain development. I don't know how long that will take.

My problem now is,

should I stick to advancing my skills in frontend and proceed to backend by next year, at least, at this point, I can comfortably search for opportunities in frontend development.

Or,

Should I dive into blockchain? Would I be moving too fast? How long might it take before I'm grounded enough in the technology to get a job?

Please help me out...

Whatever your interest is, keep learning.

You can never stop learning when it comes to tech.

Everything takes time. You have to make a lot of sacrifices.

Web3 is a new guy in town.

Thanks bro. I just feel like jumping into it now that it's new but you know tech, there's still plenty to learn.

Take blockchain as a hobby
Frontend development as your main focus.

When times become right for the blockchain it would be clear.

Hello buddy, React is perfect for building web3 interfaces. If you want to enter the Blockchain sphere you might want to have some Networking knowledge along with basic cryptography knowledge to get you started.
Also pickup another language, although you can use JS as a client, you'd be much happier if you learnt Python. And if the Ethereum space interests you then Solidity is a must. Personally I think you should focus on Eth.

If you were starting out, I would have advised you to go for blockchain. But now, I would advise you to continue with web development.

I remember when I started. I started with data science. After I finished learning, no opportunity coming. I dived into front end. It was becoming a thug of war to remain relevant in both. My front end skills wasn't exceptional. And my data science was average too. I was caught in a loop. It took me time to focus on data science.

No matter what you choose, try to be good at it. I don't think a blockchain developer earn more than a frontend of similar experience in Nigeria. Especially if you are up to date in the latest technologies.
