Should he be assaulted with a projectile, and be punished? No. (Thats the legal standpoint. The university using its laws expelled him, which is applying a legal framework)

So what if the lecturer argued that she threw the projectile in self defense. Remember this is a woman...viewed as the weaker sex. Secondly he came to meet her in her office. That's her domain for that matter. It's like you protecting yourself against an intruder in your house. Anything done is justified because it was done in self defense. And if that was his argument, then what happens to leaving the office when everything became more violent? If you're a lawyer; no wonder lot's of you lose cases in court.

I doubt this guy's story of being arrested and locked up in Lagos. Doesn't he have relatives or friends who knew he was supposed to be on SIWES? They could have simply contacted the establishment where he did the SIWES and his university's SIWES supervisor to explain things and work out a solution before it was too late.
