Please I’m having a serious issue in making a choice here. There’s this “Federal” Micro Finance Bank that I submitted an Application to 2months ago and got an invitation for interview which is scheduled for tomorrow.

Comparing the Two

Current Job
1. 7-7pm.
2. Nothing like Career here not to talk of growth.
3. No time for self development.
4. Conducive co-workers
5. Friendly Boss
6. Salary 45k

Bank Job
1. Salary 40k
2. 8-4pm
3. 80% of the workers are above 35yrs
4. Time for self development.
5. I don’t know the Executives yet.

My main reason for posting here is that I want to learn programming but my current Job won’t give me the time.
The bank Salary and timing is just perfect for me but am just afraid incase thing’s doesn’t go as planned.

Stay where you are now please, you just need to squeeze out of your time to have time for yourself. I don't trust any banking job especially microfinance . Target upon target

Move to the bank job. The difference is negligible but honestly I feel the timing will still be the same. 8 to 4 is just on paper. It can be 8 to 11

Imagine attending to that long queue from 4pm to 6pm, before you round up everything and start going home, it'd have already clocked 7-8pm

Op if you have savings or if you have supportive family I will advise you to resign and focus on coding. The bank job has no future and I am sure you will be a teller or marketer. Just put your mind and learn coding like you want to die.

KennethFranc, don't take the "bank" job. They're often exhaustive, dead-end jobs. Trust me... You'll need to meet given targets regularly otherwise you won't be able to keep that job for long.

Rather, keep this job you feel comfortable in already. You need to manage your time to be able to pursue programming. Squeeze in time , everyday.

I started learning programming when I worked as a merchandiser for a company in 2009. I started by reading ebooks on my computer then. One hour everyday , progressed to 2 hours, then 3 hours. I read during bus trips, in between staff meetings. Any spare time I had.

Every time you learn, build an app to instill the knowledge you acquire. Don't just be reading or watching tutorials. It's when you build applications that you learn the most.
