Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have both been notable names in the round leather game having been ruling the modern game of football for over a decade and have both shared the podium for almost fifteen years, with both still very much relevant hitherto performing at the peak for club and country.


There has been an old time comparison between the two greatest footballers on who's better than the other in terms of record both individual and collective, trophies won, level of impact and most significantly who the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) is.

This has caused heated discussions among football fans and lovers, former and current footballers, social media users on why the former Barcelona talisman deserves the award ahead of Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski who seems more deserving to be crowned the winner after missing out from the last year edition due to the outbreak of Corona Virus.

These two unarguably are the best of their generation having been at the forefront and contributing their quota by writing their names with gold in the history of football breaking some records that seem unbreakable.

Also Cristiano Ronaldo has better goal ratio and has proved himself in England, Italy and Spain which was another basis of argument with the claim that Lionel Messi is a one system phenomenon and brilliant under one specific system and has always scored in one league with a team built around him, until the latter made a move away from Barcelona in the last summer transfer window to Paris Saint Germain.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored over 100 goals in Spain, England and Italy including the Portugal national team but Lionel Messi also has the record for the most goals scored for a single club which could be hard for a player to break which makes Messi's level of commitment and dedication been at top notch.

In terms of individual awards, Lionel Messi who is two years younger than the Portuguese ace has more despite playing over 140 games lesser than the latter coupled with overall trophies won, a stat many considered to be enough in putting their argument to bed.


There is no gainsaying that Cristiano Ronaldo seems to have more impact social media wise with Lionel Messi been a bit ahead when it comes to pure football and technical ability on the pitch of play.

Irrespective of the stats to back these two football icons, it has been a privilege to watch them both played in this generation as they have been helping the current generation in different ways based on their personal idiosyncrasies.
