Hello nairalander, please I need your advice, I’m first year student, after my exam results was released, it actually not good but I’m not really happy with my grade even tho I’m not lazy I study hard but still I still have low score...

So I’m so confusing like this, because I cannot just continue with that grade, even tho I’m not felling so fulfilled with course I’m studying...

I’m thinking of quit and start again, with course I really wanted but also I’m scared of my parent I dont know what they will say?? cry

Please I need your advice! What should I do?

I will be happy, if this can be move to where people can see it well(front page)

Since you're not fulfilled with the course you're studying, Better you quit now. Don't waste your parents money when you know you will not graduate.

School no be do or die affair.

Rema gave girls that rocked him on stage 1.2Million Naira, while OAU gave the best graduating student 100K. If school no gree you, you can choose another career.

Having good grades is more than the amount of work you put in..

You just mentioned that you don't like the course..

There in may lie your problem..

If you are not of a mathematical turn of mind..

And you get lumped into such a course..

No amount of endless jacking is going to work..

Always go for a course you compatible with..

Don't quit,

I was once in your shoe, I started with 2.76 in first semester but wrote nothing less than 4.17 from second semester.
You can do it, just understand how the system works( how your grade are compute) and read smart, solve a lot of past questions (no new question) and network with people who are in first class( learn their ways and build yourself). You also need to understand yourself (what works for you).

What course are you studying? Maybe we can give you suggestion on how to works around it.

To be sincere this course no be beans,

You just have to develop interest in it, it will be hard if you don't develop interest in it even if you read 24/7.

If you still can't find interest in it, just develop your passion on the side( business, getting skill or learning new stuff) and maintain your grade.

Quiting and starting again is not available due to the current situation of the nation, jamb has almost two set down and by the time you enter again, you might have been in 300l or final year.

This country is not about what you study but what you can do but you need that A4 paper to get some attention

Try and change to the course you want because it is very important to finish with a good grade if you are not from a rich home.

You just need to work harder and mingle with brilliant guys.. if they organize tutorials or group discussions, join them and see positive changes.

School is not easy o.. been there so I know first hand.

Courses such as engineering with pre-requisites like engineering maths and some borrowed courses from other departments and faculties can make you spend 8-10yrs (I've seen 12yrs) for a 5yrs programme. Reason I don't feel those glorified secondary schools called private universities in Nigeria where students are pushed to complete their programme in stipulated years whether or not they meet up.

@OP Just put in your best or betterstill change course if you're still in say 100L or 200L.Your efforts will pay off in the end when you enter the corporate world.

Generally, I've come to realized that you'll hardly get what you want in life as you planned in your heart. Trust me, you'd hardly get them. Nature simply present to us what pleases her and many times if you go with the flow, you don't regret it. But if you try to struggle, you may just end up regretting everything.

Many students don't usually end up studying the course they had in mind. They just find themselves studying something else and they continue and finish up nevertheless. And many times, those that fight hard to study a particular course or try to force their choices to happen don't usually get to finish well. Sometimes, the course they studied in school seems to be irrelevant for them in life.

You don't necessarily need to study the exact course you had in mind to become successful in life. The ultimate thing you need in life is to be educated. Education would help you to succeed in life, but education in itself can't guarantee you success. It's only an enabler and not the real thing.

What education does is to make you become aware. Once you become aware, you can take advantage of opportunities and situations. For example, Nigeria today may appear so bad to many because there are limited opportunities but at the same time, there are people that are massively taking advantage of the state of Nigeria. And I mean common people that are not in government.

In this country, there are poor medical doctors. There are poor lawyers as well as poor engineers. Why are you disturbing yourself that you are studying a course you don't like? Sometimes, those that attempt to leave the country to go study one super course abroad end up perishing there. Why then are you worrying about what ought not to be worried about?

Life would not always give you what you wanted but you can always make the best of every situation. Education is the key and not because you studied one course in the university. Take note that education transcends university education.

Take it or leave, regardless of what you study in school, Nigeria as a country has nothing to offer you at the end of the day. You fight and get what you want. No course in any Nigeria university can promise you a safe landing.

My advice to you is to continue studying that course. Make the best of it and come out great. Have this mindset of getting educated instead of studying any particular course that you love. You'll be wasting your time starting all over again because you don't like the course.

What more? There's time in your hand now that you are still in school, use it wisely. Like someone has said, start acquiring digital skills (e.g., software development, web development, writing skills, etc.). Don't ever think that Nigeria can offer you something because you studied one wonderful course. Don't also think that leaving the country may be a better option.

Make the best of your youthful years. Spend quality time learning. Get educated and grounded in matters of life.

All the best.

<<< But why did u hate the course?
Is it because it was not what u originally intend to study and it was given to you by the college because your score was not enough for the original one or your parents imposed that on you?
If it was the second option, then before you make any decisions, u have to involve your parent.. it's very important...

I cannot comprehend because what you were insinuating was totally du*b, Then how do an average person improve if it is not by reading which is part of the hard work. Small minded people believe average people won't improve even though they put in the work. Small minded people dissuade average persons from ever becoming the best.

I am saying this because I was always an average person but the "reading reading " you said made me a much better person. Change your thoughts today and start thinking big.
