From what I'm seeing here, it's actually an African green bush snake which are nonvenomous. These snake have a dark/black pigmented oral cavity unlike Green Mamba's which is light. The Green Mamba close to Nigeria is the Western Green Mamba's and are light green (very light green) with light oral cavity unlike it's cousin the Black Mamba and it's rarely found in Nigeria . It's not also Boomslang because the eyes of the Boomslang is very big in relation to it's head, as in you can't miss it. My advice: What you're reading above is theoretical, don't use your life to gamble, moreover a nonvenomous snake bite can still inflict you with serious life threatening infection like Tetanus, Staphylococcus etc which may be deadly. I hope this helps.!!!!
you are right. Now i know most people on this NL don't make research properly or are not well educated. I see people here saying the mouth of a green mamba is black which is wrong. Most green mamba's have a pinkish mouth. I mostly identify snakes by their shape of head and fangs in their mouth. Thats a harmless bush green snake.

The correct answer is Natal Green Snake.. Harmless. Black mouth doesn't make it Green Mamba. Its not a bush green snake..
Its a Natal Green Snake. Thank you. smiley

Thanks, but I still think it's an African Green Bush snake due to geographical distribution. Natal Green Snake are found majorly in South and East Africa like Mozambique etc not west Africa. Let's look at it that way

yes location matters too in determining what Snake specie it is. So you may be right, its just a harmless bush green snake since its found in Nigeria. Natal green Snakes are not found in Nigeria. So definitely its a harmless bush green snake.

A harmless snake can deliver dry bite. The bite of a non venomous will be same as bite from a Cat or a Dog. Can cause severe injury if not treated well..
Moreover, i don't think keeping pets in Nigeria is safe because we don't have steady and good health facilities, no good vertinary doctors, vaccines are rarely reachable so please don't try to copy the Whites or Rich people by keeping pets in your home.
Those white people have good health facilities and good vaccines for fast and effective treatment of all these animal bites.

The name comes from the black colouration of inside of the mouth, not it body colour

I thought of keeping it in a bowl or container but I dont trust snakes, it may creep out and lurk in my lodge, I thought of air tight container, it may suffocate and die, it thougt of a small cage but snakes are sleek in nature so obvisously, it'll find it way out.

Whats discourage me most was when it mouth opened, the black colouration rings a bell in my head "juvenile green mamber" cos I know black mambers are not black in colour, more of grey but the black colouration in their mouth thats why it called black mamber.

Within 40mins, the snakes look lethergic I think cos of the place of impact on it back and it doesnt look like it'll survive the next few hours, so I decided to give it quick and painless death.

Pics of black mouth
your dealing with a black mamba ,oga kill that thing.

Hey! Keeping a wild snake as a pet is generally not recommended for several reasons. First, many snakes have specific dietary and environmental needs that can be challenging to meet in captivity, leading to health issues. Second, wild snakes may carry parasites or diseases that can be transmitted to humans. Additionally, capturing wild snakes can have negative consequences on local ecosystems and biodiversity.
However, if you want a snake as a pet, you can visit a local pet store where you can find many different snakes that can make a wonderful pet. However, first, I recommend that you check out this article on Pros and Cons of Snakes as Pets which will help you decide if you should get a snake as a pet. I hope my answer helps you!
