No strong opposition. That Senate needs a Saraki to muster a protest against president's decline to sign the electoral amendment bill.

There is no doubt that NASS members who are pushing for direct primaries are doing so to protect their political interests against the interests of state governors who are opposing it. It is never about national interest or its practicality in terms of logistics, cost, etc. They don't care how much it costs provided it serves their selfish political ambition to continue to do nothing but share money.

Yes, direct party primary election is good for democracy but there is need for a detailed study of its bolt and nut to identify likely weakness and threats and ways to counter them. APC governorship direct party primary in Anambra State was a huge disappointment and a bad advert for the idea of direct primary. There is need for a standard guidelines drawn from field experience. So, may be Osun State Governorship election should serve a kind of pilot scheme.

Why rush into something you know just little about?

Why are you trying to justify Buhari's action that is unwise and benighted. Primary election should be for all the members of that party and not for some. If Buhari wants to cut cost he should begin with himself and ministries under him. Gone are days when Nigerians believe this kind of trash.

“The conduct of direct primaries across the 8,809 wards across the length and breadth of the country will lead to a significant spike in the cost of conducting primary elections by parties as well as increase in the cost of monitoring such elections by INEC who has to deploy monitors across these wards each time a party is to conduct direct primaries for the presidential, gubernatorial and legislative posts”
Bless you bro.

People please think about this properly. The parties have never planned for direct prmaries neither has INEC. It is practically the same as running multiple presidentiaal elections. The opportunities for litigation, cheating, violence....are numerous. I truly believe direct primaries are actually a RISK to our democracy. The National assembly should removed the direct primary clause from the bill, and forward it back to the President for signing.

They stylishly accepted Electronic Transmission and used the Direct Primaries (their plan B) ploy to kill the Electoral Bill. No government in power supports any move (not favourable to it) that counters its rigging machinery. Thats simply what electronic transmission of votes would have done, hence, their plan B.

Well it didn’t actually make sense…how many parties even have the resources to conduct direct primaries apart from pdp and APC

If INEC could request for 305b to conduct next general election aside year budgetry allocation of 40b, we should preview how much it'll then cost if INEC should be monitoring all Political Parties direct primary election!

Direct primary shouldn't be a compulsion. Let the party decide mode of primary they all want.

I doubt if this was your stand a week ago. I know one Facebook character whose handle name is Ayekooto. He was always calling for the bill to be signed cos of the direct primary clause in it that would favour his interest. When the news of buhari declining assent came up, rather than criticize the president he started attacking wike for saying NASS is too weak to veto the president. Try and be consistent sir

Well, we might agree to the bill at inception due to its democratic form but considering the cost which was not holistically considered then, WE SHOULD LET GO FOR NOW. We don't have enough to waste.
You're also aware of this sir. Can Nigeria truly adopt that processes and won't feel it

Which legacy. Can Nigeria afford the cost? Answer
Moferere:
Buhari blew the chance of leaving a good LEGACY by not signing that bill. He allowed himself to be misled by deluded hybrids flocking around him.

After his tenure, he will only be remembered for bandits, hoodlums, unknown gun men and the hunger he created in Nigeria.

I don't like answering questions with questions but I think I need to do that tonight.
Is mode of primaries the only clause in the electoral amendment bill?

What stops the president from assenting it, then push for an amendment of the clause on mode of primaries?

Are you aware that the president assented the PIGB and pushed for an amendment of certain clauses almost immediately?

Lastly, what is the cost of option A4 direct primaries?
