Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by stechi(m): 7:48am On Jun 16, 2011
Mobil filling stations hav constantly been known for their dubious activities whenever they are patronised for their fuel products.
The pumps seems to be programmed in giving the client a right information for wrong quantity delivered to the client.
Normally,N6000 fills my fuel tank but on several occassions I hav had course to drive into their filling station hav ended up being disappointed, likewise my friends also.
Fellow motorists, kindly let me know which fuel stations are much reliable.
Thanks.

Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by davidfajum(m): 2:56pm On Jun 17, 2011
It is worst in MRS located in new Garage in Gbagada. I noticed it the first time and i thought it was an over sight. When i now concluded was when i took my 20 Litres Keg to get fuel for my Generator,i noticed the price that i use to buy was not what i got. I have to pay more. I would appreciate should anybody can help so that i can inform DPR. They are good in selling for kegs

It's a norm for all the filling station. they'll still collect N20 to N10 from u if u come with a jerrican. i wonder y naijerian are so dubious. their mgt are aware of this act. u cant get an accurate pump except for NNPC.
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by digi101(m): 3:42pm On Jun 18, 2011
@poster

This incidence is not about the brand of the station, but the unscrupulous owners and there staff that manage the outlet. The mobil on your side might be bad whilst on the other side of town you get excellent service. What i've learnt to do is to use a jerry can for purchase to guage and simply pick out the good stations to regularly buy from. I really just dont buy petrol just anywhere.

I think we should start blacklisting them here!
If you know where you have been cheated, name it here.

Mobil Festac link road is as dubious as they come!!
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by dantitiki(m): 12:34am On Jun 21, 2011
This is a caliberation error. Not in all cases is this problem intentional. Each time their underground tanks gets almost empty and before they refil new stock, air becomes a component of this error, so the pumps have to be recaliberated so as to deliver what you pay for, but not all stations do this rcaliberation.

As for me, I usually buy my gas from one station most times where I know I'm getting what I pay for. How to know is to get a 10L keg and buy a full up. If you pay more than N800, then there's an error or gimmick on their pumps, then decide if to continue patronage with them.

Kind regards.

this is very common with all mobil filling stations. But i think to a large extent, most Total stations are good places to buy fuel but if you can make it buy from NNPC
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 10:09am On Jun 21, 2011
Avoid Texaco Secretariat Ikoyi/Obalende axis
Avoid Texaco Awolowo Road. Okotie Eboh junction
Avoid Conoil Adetola Street Junction Aguda Surulere

I have been shafted too many times to believe it is pump calibration or air in the fuel storage tanks angry. If you are in doubt, A trial will convince you grin
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by JesChill(m): 10:31am On Jun 21, 2011
nnpc, the nnpc mega station close to my place is soooo dubious, i guess they (nnpc) dont check who they lease out these stations to, and they dont try to check if these dubious owners are selling with the right gauge pathetic,
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by blank(f): 2:49pm On Jun 21, 2011
Pls avoid Primer vera just before Sangotedo. They sell extra adulterated fuel. Once I almost bought fuel there. I stopped and saw a guy arguing with them. Seems like he bought fuel and his car knocked right there at the fuel station. He got a mechanic and he said it was bad fuel. Na so I run commot.

Also, Connoil in Surulere (Eric Moore) sells bad fuel. It has knocked my generator several times. Also, AP and MRS always mess with their meters.
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by cretin: 3:42pm On Jun 21, 2011
some hv bad meters, some dont re zero their meters after selling to the customer b4 you.
its really crazy, nigerians cud be very dubious sometimes

Good topic!!!! List of Dubious stations are 1, Mobil Station, 2, Mobil Station, 3, Mobil Station, in fact avoid all Mobil station and i can say it to the face of their CEO with hard evidences!!!!!!! they are criminals!!!!!!! Capital Oil is a good station, the one along Lagos-Berger-Ibadan expressway near Otedola Estate. Also avoid being distracted when buying fuel, all sorts of gimmicks are used, lubricants sales, casual talks, girls unusual smiles, weird jokes etc.

I usually fill a 30 litre jerrycan @65 naira equals 1,950 naira so I buy from two gas stations mostly because I usually pay between 1,930 - 1,960 naira depending on the time of the day. I avoid filling in the afternoon when temperature is high, mostly in the morning or evening.
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by Syenite(m): 12:08pm On Jun 22, 2011
It's everywhere in the country.

For Benin-City, people please avoid the Oando Filling station at Agip Junction(facing Country Home road) along Sapele road and Total filling station along Sapele road, Ekae area. Those guys are thiefs.

What they do is you'l tell them you want to buy fuel of say N3,000 they'l put one for N600 and stop and will say they thought you meant N600.They will then reset the machine to Zero and put N2,400 extra. But I tell you ,you would have been cheated. They have a way of programming their machine to pump in air when such happens. They've done this to me before and my wife has also experienced such. DPR PLAESE TAKE NOTE!

If any fuel attendent sells a little amount for you claiming he thought you ordered for that little amount. He's about to cheat you.

The only people I trust are the NNPC Mega stations
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by BiggySmalz(m): 1:17pm On Jun 22, 2011
^^^I had a similar experience at mobil airport road ajao, I normally feel up my car tank with 3k. On these faithful day i drove into the station, asked the attendant to sell 3k petrol. As he was on it an air freshner sales guy just walk up to me with his stucks and at this point i got carried away. when I turned to the fuel attendant he already finish selling, when i look up the metre it was 500 i saw blinking on the machine and I told him i wanted 3k fuel not 500 the he reprogram the machine and sold me extra 2500 fuel. When i was leaving i suspected foul play and i parked and wait for my gauge to rise then i saw that i have been reaped.
When i drove back there i saw the attendant and the airfresner guy talking, i just told them that knew what they did and i could see the fuel attendant getting scared when i was telling them off. I am now wiser and would not fall for such again
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by amdman: 1:34pm On Jun 22, 2011
I drove into the Mobil station at Maryland Junction (the turn off from Ikorodu Rd) cos my guage was showing low fuel though it had not reached the reserve point, meaning I still had some fuel in the tank. I asked for a fill up and was perturbed at what I got.

My car manual says my fuel tank capacity is 75L. I was shocked that at the time the meter was reading 80 litres, my tank was still not full. I just asked the attendant to stop at that point. I tried the station on another ocassion and had somewhat the same result. Am yet to find that station that satisifies my needs.
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by cretin: 1:53pm On Jun 22, 2011
@andman, its only by trial and error that u will know the good ones, some bmw cars hv a digital fuel guage, those are the best.its easy to know when you are cheated,, when am in ph, the oando filling station by woji elelenwo link rd is my choice, their meter is always accurate.never being cheated there
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by dantitiki(m): 2:15pm On Jun 22, 2011
Conoil - Abule Egba Junction

Jimmyco - Dopemu

Conoil - National B/S, Abeokuta Expressway, by the turning into the airport

Mobil - After ExxonMobil HQ, Lekki

These stations sell to you what you pay for. Tested and Trusted!

Kind regards.
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by NairaBoy: 7:05pm On Jun 22, 2011
Excellent Topic!  Very true that many filling stations practice these 'cheat codes' on their customers but MOBIL filling station is in no competition when it comes to being dubious during fuel sales. Oh gosh! It is sooo irritating that for the more than 5 MOBIL filling stations i had previously patronized in Lagos , the case was always the same especially MARYLAND and AWOLOWO way Ikeja stations respectively. You just cannot escape being cheated at these MOBIL stations. For now, only two OANDO stations seem to meet up reasonably - The ones located on Awolowo way Ikoyi and i hope they keep up long enough.
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by GeorgeD1(m): 1:20pm On Jun 23, 2011
i think going by the number of posts so far, its reasonable to conclude that
buying fuel from filling stations on the outskirts of town is not really a good idea.

they capitalize on the fact that most motorists coming to buy from them are always
in a hurry since they are either about to leave town (going on a journey) or coming
back to town (anxious to get home), so they manipulate their meters to shortchange
their unwary customers.
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by Connoisseur(m): 12:16am On Jun 24, 2011
The only way imo to know the best stations is to patronise those stations used by transporters. Believe me, these drivers always know thise ones with integrity especially the long distance drivers. So just monitors the stations they use along your route and you'd be sure you are shortchanged
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by uuspace(m): 4:02am On Jun 24, 2011
Hello Guys ,

No need to worry again.i always buy my fuel from Mobil filling stations, this is because i have discovered there trick,so anytime they do it,i catch them.so i feel more comfortable buying from them. All the mobil filling stations do it,from the one in Maryland that has MR biggs, the in Gbagada express, the one at Ajao estate airport road.

This is what normally happens, there are different scenerios but they all end up the same way,u might come and ask them to put 3000 worth of fuel in you car, after some time, they will tell u that they are changing power or Nepa has taken light, they will now show u the meter that thay have already put 600 or 700 fuel in your car,u will ask them to continue, they will now put 2300 worth of fuel in your car.

Now what actually happened is that ,there was no power failure, what they normally do is:

1.When u are about to park, they will be asking to move forward so that after parking the meter will be behind u,at times u will be too lazy to turn ur neck.

2.At times they use the people selling rat poisin ,motivational books, sex enhancement drugs e.tc to distract u

Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by uuspace(m): 4:18am On Jun 24, 2011
Sorry guys for the break,i was having a problem with my browser.

As i was saying, after they have succeded in distracting u,they will do something to the meter that will make it to look like thay have put the said amount of fuel. They will even call ur attention to it that nepa has taken light and point to the meter for u.

So what i normally do is to tell them to still put 3000 fuel, when they finish they will be expecting me to give them 3700,but i will give them 3000,they will want to remind me that they had put 700 earlier, depending on my mood,i will either tell them that i will report them to their manager or just shout on them.Once i do that they know am unto them, they now start apologising.

So my advise anytime u are getting fuel in mobil filling station and thay tell u that they are changing power, just know that u are about to be scammed. Most mobil filling stations have Mr biggs or supermarkets,if u are told that there is power failure look inside u will see that they ahave light,or even other pumps are still selling fuel.

Another thing is when they call ur attention to the amount they have put,u will notice that there is no corresponding meter value.
One other thing when parking make sure u are at eye level with meter, their hose should reach ur fuel thank, any attendant that asks u to move forward has uterior motive.

Oando have their fair share of wuruwuru. My mum went to get fuel from them as her tank waz on the red. She paid for 3k fuel & got 3k air. The car neva comot from the station when fuel finish. Trust women. She shouted down mkt 4 that day. These guys r bcoming 'wickeder' every day
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by mcbertin: 8:21pm On Jun 25, 2011
Guys,

This has happened to me severally especially at Mobil gas stations particularly the ones in gbagada and international airport road. Its really crazy, I think they manipulate the pumps. The management may not know about this but the guys at the pump are doing it for their own benefit at the peril of the company.

yeah, u are right.their's also one in abuja here around gudu, is so bad.i fought them the first time i bought fuel there.i later heard similar experience from motorists.
meanwhile, the best filling station so far in abuja is in mpape junction,by your right hand side if u are coming from AY. am not too sure of their name, may be ramaniya or something, but am not sure. i will advise any body who reside in abj to give it a trial.
Re: Dubious Fuel Stations - Anyone with similar experiences? by NAIJA4US: 9:08pm On Jun 26, 2011
i have tried several petrol station but still single out these two as very reliable.

1) Capital Oil, the one along Lagos-Berger-Ibadan expressway near Otedola Estate

2) fat-gbem oil, along Lagos-ibadan express way, after gate way building,

there is a third one opposite grammer school bus stop, Ojodu axis, the three are very reliable as far as am concerned.
