Apostle Emmanuel Obasi Congratulates Father-in-law, Oke Ibem Oke On Retirement by Nobody: 8:58am On Dec 31, 2021
The President and Founder, Vision Savers Global Outreach, Apostle Emmanuel Uche Obasi has congratulated his father-in-law, Eze Oke Ibem Oke of Akanu Ohafia, Ohafia L.G.A. Abia State on his successful traditional retirement of age grade, known as 'Igba Uche'.

Apostle Obasi a renowned anti-cult campaigner extolled the rich culture of the people of Ohafia, particularly Akanu which he says encourages full participation of the community in its developmental process.

The graduate of Computer Science had graced the occasion in company of his charming and gold-hearted wife, Rose Emmanuel.

Speaking with correspondents from venue of the 'Igba Uche' on Wednesday, the cleric while expressing gratitude to God for sparing all the lives of the retirees while they lasted in active community service noted that the age grade system should be encouraged and adopted in all communities in Igbo land as a means of fostering grassroot development.

He further commended the zeal and seriousness attached to the age grade retirement by the people of Akanu Ohafia which according to him helps in sustenance of culture for generations to come.

He said "I saw colourful flex banners with bold prints where people are celebrating their loved ones. That gives a sense of fulfillment. That is in appreciation for the selfless services the retiring age grade has offered the community over the year.

"In some communities around Igbo land, flex banners are only associated with mourning, where you see inscriptions like, Call to glory, Obituary, Gone so soon or Painful Exit.

"In Akanu, I see happiness, fulfilment and joy on the faces of all the celebrants and their family members.

"People have their houses renovated for this great event, while in most communities, building renovations are done when the person who is supposed to enjoy the so-called house dies" he said.

Our correspondent gathered that the fun-filled traditional event featured music, games, traditional dance and lots more.

Sons and daughters of Akanu Ohafia from within and outside the country also came home for the all-important event.

Before their retirement, the age grade completed and handed over a 3,000 capacity civic centre for the community.

Previous age grades completed projects such as schools, markets, water, electricity, mini stadium and road projects.

In his comment, Eze Oke Ibem Oke who could not hold his joy expressed gratitude to God for giving him and entire members of his age grade the strength and willpower to contribute their modest efforts in the development of the community.
