Dear Colleagues I got the shock of my life today.

I used to know a Teacher who is an HND holder in Computer Science.

He is a Physics & Mathematics teacher for years suddenly he abandoned work last week and the students went to tell to the School Owner that they saw Uncle (name withheld) riding Keke Napep on the road.

So immediately the school owners sent for him after visiting his house severally without him being around.

He finally went to see the school owner today and they got talking.

After a long discussion he told them frankly that he can't leave riding Keke Napep for any Teaching job again or any job except if they can pay him N10,000 per day or any job that can fetch him same N10,000 because presently he is making N8,000 per day after he settles his oga for the day job.

They couldn't continue the discussion with him than to wish him well.

Please dear colleagues, is there no more passion for teaching job again in Nigeria?

What is going to happen to private schools teachers in the next 12-24months if this thread continues?

What are your thoughts?

shocked

A very good decision by your friend.

I believe they paid him a meagre salary there. If he's so consistent in riding the KeKe he can't make x4 of the money he was receiving as salary in that school.

Private school is not a school someone should teach seriously. The level of exploitation and insults given to teachers by the owner/owners of private school is so sad at the same time so provocative.

They expected so much from you, but at the end of every month they gave you something that worths nothing but they are making so much from your services. Reason Karl Marx hated those he called " The Bourgeois" and advocated for strongly for a classless society, even though it's not possible to actualize a classless society, but I subscribed totally to Marx's philosophy and ideology.

Private school owners/adminstrators are a very greedy set of people in this country so if in the next 1-2 years from now they don't see teachers to work for them their eyes will clear up.

Imagine in a class of of let's say 15/18 students who pay 20/25k per term yet you can't pay the class teacher 20k a month so who will like to continue such suffering

Gone are the days when the do rely on fresh secondary school graduates, now those boys and girls are into yahoo and hookups respectively so how is 12k or 15k a month going to appeal to them again

Don't Ride Keke for too long.
But teaching is carrier profession.
In this present economy, what lpays the bills is what you should have passion for.
At a time, Nigerians don't value the essence of education, that is why our education values are deteriorating as days go by.

They're indeed greedy. All they know how to do best is to look for more avenues to exploit, it's so sad that some of them don't pay their staff well, not even as at when due. Some teachers just have to make it up by doing extra lessons and even at that it's never enough. Really sad.

Teaching is a calling .... but at the end of the day... one need to survive. If he were a good teacher... he shouldn't abandon the students like that. I think it would be better if he holds private classes for them to continue smoothly.... and he can still work keke. He can kill two birds with one stone.
